A month after my trip to Belize and have been meaning to write trip advisor to sing the praises of a great guy who picked me up at the airport in Belize City and went out of his way (no extra charge) to drive me to see Belmopan. Then, 3 days later, drove me back to Belize City from San Ignacio. Stopped at the zoo for me, waited an hour in the rain while I wandered the zoo, and took me to the airport. SMILED the entire time, was sooo easy to talk to and who was just an overall good soul. Manuel is well known in the community of San Ignacio, has adopted two Guatemalen children (one with special needs) and you can't drive down the street without people honking and saying "hi" to him.

He gave me a complete history of Belize, which was fascinating, gave me tons of local tips about San Ignacio (from which restaurants are dirty/have bugs to which ones are spotless and serve the best food to how to arrange great tours), and genuinely cared about my own stories and life back home.

When he finally dropped me off at the airport, he said, "I have met a sister." I couldn't have said it better myself. He is a good man.

Importantly, he charges GREAT prices. Arrived at my hotel 10 mins early, took me to the bakery and the bank, drove me to the zoo, waited an hour, took me to the airport (gave me a rundown on the best places to eat nearby if I had to wait longer)...all for about $50 less than the local tour company charged and about $75 less than my hotel charged. He also will take you to Tikal and various other tourist places for much cheaper than the local tour guides.
