Amazing Art and Ice Cream in Monterrico

If you hike south down the beach from central Monterrico, look for a charming little palapa style little building on the edge of the sand called "Dasu" with an accent over the 'u'. Its just before you come to Dos Mundos, (which has a huge round palapa building right on the edge of the sand and you can also see the edge of its pool from the beach) so definitely a good clip down the beach - maybe 20 minutes walk. It is owned by an adorable young Italian guy who makes interesting art sculptures out of found objects and absolutely delicious hand made ice creams. Tourist prices, but well worth it in my book!

The owner enthusiastically offered my boyfriend tasters of all the flavors, but he was sold on the first (I think it was Mango) and I the second which was Tiramisu. Small problem with the combination of fast melting icecream and strong ocean breezes leaving a little recuerdo on my favorite white camiseta -small price. There are also espresso drinks, imaginative if a little rich sounding cocktails, liquados and I believe some snacks on the menu.

The ambiance is charming - everything put together with an artists' touch - from the building itself to the menus. There are maybe 5 little tables with a lovely view of the beach and you can eat your ice cream under the shade of the palapa roof. A welcome break from the killer Guatemalan sun! One note, walking on the beach midday is not for the faint hearted as the "black" sand bakes. Shoes are a must.
