A very special place with continental food for late December birthday. Is Tamarindo really the best and what about Jake's? Has anybody a suggestion or two?

Tamarindo's really is fantastic. The restaurant in the Intercontinental is fantastic. Tre Fratelli is one of my favorite, and while they are officially Italian their menu is more than that. Las Cebollina's is pretty good for Guatemalan food.

Hey for Good food I would suggest the Café de Paix at The Hotel Intercontinental, 2 Avenida, Zona 10

especially nice when you let them know its someones birthday..they try to make everything super special and memorable evening

We've recently eaten at a number of great places in Guatemala City. One of my favorites is El Portal del Angel, at km. 11 on the Carretera El Salvador. It is stunning...great steaks, among other items on an extensive menu, and it's on a mountain overlooking the city. Highly recommended.
