Maui w/ young kids/ Kamaole or Kaanapali Beach???

We are torn on which would be the best for the kids. I can tell you we have been spoiled by Carribbean waters that has absolutely no wave to them. I know I may not be able to get that here but want as close as I can get. The youngest is 2 and he is very outgoing and will want to be in the water all day. I don't want him to get frustrated because of waves knocking him over or rocky beaches. I want to relax and to do that he has to be able to roam.

Any input on the best beach for us would be much appreciated. We are looking at going in May. If we stay in Kihei we are looking at Maui Banyan and if in Kaanapali we are looking at Kaanapali Ocean Inn. Thanks for any input.

Aloha,

May is normally great water conditions on both south and west shores. The northern end of Kaanapali Beach, near the "Oceanfront Inn", is often like a bathtub during the later spring and summer months.

I'm curious why you'd pick the Oceanfront Inn.......it's ummm.....very budget......in May you should be able to find nicer lodgings for not much more money.

Look at condos like Maui Kaanapali Villas, the Maui Kai, Outrigger Royal Kahana, Napili Shores, etc. You will save a lot of $$$ being in a condo.

Thanks. With a family of 6 we have to go budget. I haven't found anything else very affordable. We would love to find a condo. I will look at your suggestions. With your suggestions does that mean you would think Kaanapali waters would be more what we are looking for? Thanks.

The Kamaoles are great for small children. In addition to the beaches there are large, grassy areas and play equipment, tables and benches, restrooms, life guards...and SHADE! Banyan, Kam Sands, Kihei Kai Nani, Hale Kamaole, Maui Kamaole -- all fine, *depending* on which unit you rent. Nearby is another fine beach for kids: Keawakapu. It's in front of the Mana Kai Maui condo-tel.

I'd want a condo where there is more space, a full kitchen, a nice lanai with a view -- so that Mom and Dad can still feel 'on vacation' during naps and early bedtimes.
