 Visa info

Hi everyone,

Off to South Africa and Victoria Falls in just over 4 weeks. Been stressing about the visa despite Mr Ivans excellent advice. I knew I needed a double entry visa because I want to do the Chobe day trip, but what if I got the chance to walk across the bridge to see the falls from the other side, then I'd need a multiple entry visa!!!

Being money conscious I also wanted to save myself as much money as possible. Anyway last Thursday I went up to London for the day for a show and decided to visit the Zambia High Commission in the morning and lodge my visa request. I went armed with the forms X2 (again thanks to Mr Ivan), 2 photos, £60 cash and a pre-paid registered envelope.

The last visa I had to apply for was an Indian one and found the Indian embassy to be a bit like bedlam - chaotic, noisy, hot and crowded. Not so the Zambian High Commission, I was completely taken aback to walk into a cool oasis of calm. I had no sooner taken a seat on a comfy sofa when I was called in to hand in my documents. A very efficient lady took everything and gave me a receipt, saying my passport would be back by Tuesday. The whole thing took less than 20 minutes and I was out on the street enjoying the rest of my day.

Today is now Tuesday and sure enough my passports have just arrived back duly stamped!

Hi Angel, well done, a good way if you can do it personally , otherwise stick to getting on arrival. I KNOW you will have a great time, look forward to a report on return. As a further bit of info I paste a post copied from the Kenya forum just today.

""I have on both previous occasions sent my passports off to KHC but last time they got stolen in transit with Royal Mail. The RM use drop off points for their posties so that they don't have to go back to the post office all the time. Little did I know that they use shops, people's front and back gardens (I jest not) and porches etc. Despite my special delivery my envelopes with 3 passports were left in a bag that someone stole from the local corner shop - just left in the shop for postie to collect! We had a huge problem getting compensation out of the RM it was an absolute nightmare. I spent a lovely day in Liverpool shelling out £300 plus for emergency passports. So this time I will be queuing at Moi - no way I am letting mine out of my sight again.""

This was one of 2 people who had problems sending by post just in this one thread.

So, "you pays your money and you takes your pick"

Have a great time.

Ivan

I must admit having them posted back was a bit of a worry for me, but worked out ok this time!

Hi, the problem is there are those who look specifically for passports to steal. they know what the envelope looks like, and they can get a lot of money for a passport. The same used to be for gyro cheques.
