Just back from our third trip to Niue. Went specifically to swim with the humpback whales this time.Boy were we lucky!! It was like whale soup. Amazing stuff. Annie and Ian Gray who run Niue dive are experts at putting snorkelers into the water in just the right spot and we had some very close encounters with these amazing creatures.
Anyway -the real reason for my post is to report on where we stayed. A new villa called "stone villa' in the centre of Alofi, but away from the main road, in a very quiet setting. They had just been finished when we arrived. Open plan villa with queen size bed, huge bathrooom, washing machine, tumble dryer, microwave. TV, DVD, fan and well equioeed kitchen area. Insect screens on all windows. Lovely deck with table and chairs. Ida and Albert who run the place are fantastic. It's an easy walk to the main centre and harbour and ice cream shop
Trip Advisor won't list it onto the accommodation page for Alofi as they say they don't have enough details on it (but won't tell me what details they need...!)so if you want to stay there, then send me a message and I'll pass on the details. It is $150 nzd per night (NOT per person) and that includes car hire (of a really nice car) for one week. What a bargain!!
