safari number 3!

Seems like only yesterday I was on this forum planning my first safari. I had such wonderful help! Well now I'm looking at safari number 3 sometime in 2017. I am thinking Samburu, Tsavo, Mara and one more destination. This is where I need some advice. Does anyone have a recommendation for another locale with excellent wildlife viewing. Id like to see some rhino in a nice green area. I had been at porini Rhino camp which was on a lovely conservancy. Any suggestions? This safari will be part fly in and part over the road...just looking for something that would work in well with the others.

I will do Mt. Kenya spend the night at rhino watch and visit solio ranch. You will be more than happy on what you will see.

Meru National Park has a very large rhino reserve. There are 40 white and 30 black rhinos. You will have a very good chance to see them there. We actually sighted the big five in Meru. There are not many places you can do that any more. It's a beautiful park.

We stayed at the Offbeat Meru camp. Very nice. The guiding is first rate.

Also, we saw both black and white rhinos in Nairobi National Park. Stayed at the tented camp. Equally as good.

We were just there last month.

Everything is very green and lush. Kenya has had a lot of rain.

Nakuru National Park is also another great park for Rhino. It is green most of the time.

Ol Pejeta conservancy would also be of interest to you they have been doing a great work on Rhino conservancy - you can adopt one and help conserve the few remaining Rhinos.

Yes, ol pejeta, I have stayed at Rhino Camp! It was beautiful. I suppose I could stay there again, but I'd like to try something new! Maybe as recommended offbeat Meru. I was reading about Solio Ranch/Reserve, and looks like LOTS of Rhino.

Sounds like you are flexible on the time of the year. Weather and green are so unpredictable. There was a huge difference between the exact same dates in October 2014 and October 2015 for Samburu. I went back because of the spectacular colors, especially in relationship to the elephants. There had been rain around the time I was there, but everything was totally dry. Even the river, which had been up to the top in 2014, was totally dry. The giraffes were great. Lots of ellies although they were lacking that wonderful red color due to being washed by the rains. Overall, significantly less wildlife in 2015 than 2014.

I've always enjoyed Sweetwaters, particularly for the rhinos and this year I was able to get some great photos of the 3 remaining Northern White Rhinos through their protected fencing. I think next trip, I'd like to give Solio a try. Only thing I dislike is that you must use their guides. I always prefer to be with the guide I travel with.

Saw quite a few rhinos at Nakuru and it seems greener at most times of the year.

The ellies in Tsavo West were spectacular. The caracal wasn't bad either.

As you know from going more than once, every trip is different even it going to the same places. On this 6th trip last October, it was the trip of wonderful giraffes, great cheetahs and spectacular male lions. October 2015, the handsome male lions were in short supply.
