Hi
Has anyone used Ethiopian Airlines to travel to Mombasa, via Addis Ababa? Which will omit the Nairobi visa queue, before catching the connection onto Mombasa.
Have always found this to be a rush, just wondered if its a good alternative.
Interested in Mombasa?

AS far as I know this route only started last week.. a great connection I must admit ...but dont get too excited about missing Nairobi visa queues..they are worse I think in Mombasa!
Also the customs at Mombasa are a nightmare compared to Nairobi. When you are transferring to another flight we have found that Nairobi customs just wave you through. Maybe we have just been very lucky. Mombasa customs opened every case, turned every thing over, spent an hour and a half deciding extra charges. Then said okay you can go throigh. I think they enjoyed giving us hassle.
Only used Ethiopian once it was a while ago mind. Found the change at Addis Ababa chaotic all passengers had to walk out onto the tarmac and identify their luggage before it was thrown onto the Nairobi bound aircraft. Really nice food on board tho!
I flew with Ethiopian Airlines on Sunday to Mombasa with a change at Addis Ababa. I couldn't fault it. Check in at Heathrow were helpful and friendly. Luggage limit is the same as KA, 2 pieces of 23kgs each plus hand luggage of 7kgs. They are very strict on this and when you go to the boarding gate with weigh it and include anything you purchase in duty free. They DO enforce it and charge you for anything over weight. It is only one piece of hand luggage per passenger... I did see people having to pay and some bags abandoned. Flight was good. Addis Ababa was great, airy and clean. Waited 2 hours and got on flight to Mombasa. Not many got off as flight continues to Kilimanjaroo. Landed at 12.25pm no queue, straight through to baggage reclaim and the cases were just coming through. Walked through customs and not one was manned. Easiet flight ever. Luggage is booked through from Heathrow to Mombasa. I will certainly use them again and no I don't work for them and don't get commission...
Totally agree with hazda - Mombasa customs are a nightmare, they check nearly every bag passing through (and 'ask' for 'donations'). Whereas Nairobi are more 'cosmopolitain' in their approach. - although unfortunately it rather does depend on teh colour of your skin...
No one on customs desks at 12.25pm Monday. Walked straight through
Lucky you! Tell me when you are travelling next and I will walk through with you!
Bet I wont be lucky next time. It was the first time I have seen the desks empty. It is a fa.irly new route so wonder if they are not quite on the ball with it. My good fortune for it to be so speedy.
Yes, I expect they forgot about it.. LOL!
