Thanks

You can buy ticket at the ticket window of the raiway station, or through the travel agency, however, they will charge your 20/30 RMB for the booking sevice.
The D train is the fastest, and there is no sleeper in this kind of train.
In my opinion, the D train is the best.
Many hotel reception also have the train ticket service, but need RMB20-30 service fee.
Thanks! Which train station does the D train depart from?
Hi,hippo0203,
It depend on your arrival city.
There are three Railway Stations in Nanjing, Nanjing Rarlway Station, Nanjing West Railway Station and Nanjing South Railway Station.
I dont know which of those places I want to be at. I dont have a hotel or anything yet. I think I will be traveling alone, so I just want to be someplace safe.
Hippo, I am guessing you are in Nanjing as you have posted on the Nanjing forum but where are you going to?
I am guessing Shanghai? The D trains all leave from the main Nanjing station and arrive at the main Shanghai station.
Much easier just to get your hotel to get a ticket for you.
Sorry about the confusion. I will be leaving from Shanghai and arriving in Nanjing. I also am staying in a dormitory, so I do not have someone here to ask for tickets.
No problems. Same deal - the D trains leave from the main Shanghai station & arrive at the main Nanjing station. The journey takes 2 to 2.5 hours. There are heaps of D trains but I would still buy my tickets a couple of days ahead.
The train system is great. It just takes a bit of getting used to. A great website which explains a bit about train travel in China is http://www.seat61.com/China.htm
If you are buying your own ticket the ticket office is in it's own building slightly away from the main station. There is a sign in English. There is a self service machine and also an English speaking window.
On the day of your trip, when you get into the station it will have signs up displaying which trains are leaving from what platform / waiting room. You go thru security with your bags and then you need to go to your waiting room and wait until the train is ready for boarding.
On your ticket will be the carriage number and your seat number. As you walk along the train you will see the carriage numbers written on the platform ground. If you get stuck show one of the train attendants your ticket and they will help you.
Thank you so much! That website is wonderful too.
Your welcome. Train travel in China is fun but crowded;)
