travel to Boracay |
|
Hi, does anyone know if it's easier to travel to Boracay from Caticlan or Kalibo? Any recommended airlines or travel agents who can organise this including the boat trip to Boracay? Thanks! |
|
If you are traveling to Boracay from Kalibo, your first step will be to travel from Kalibo to Caticlan. Traveling to Boracay from Caticlan does not require this step, so traveling to boracay from caticlan is easier than traveling to Boracay from Kalibo.

If you fly into Kalibo, it's a 90 minute drive to the Caticlan port where you get on a boat for the short ride to the island. If you fly into Caticlan, the airport is very close to the port so it is much faster. When you depart from Boracay via Kalibo, you have to leave your resort several hours before your flight to complete the boat and ground transfers and to check in in time. It's no fun to waste a chunk of your last day in transit. Most frequent travelers to Boracay fly into Caticlan on Seair or Asian Spirit (I like Seair because their planes are faster and in better shape). The one advantage to Kalibo, perhaps, is it accommodates big jets unlike the smaller Caticlan which only accommodates propeller planes and small jets. If you go through Kalibo, Cebu Pacific and Philippine Airlines are both fine. Your hotel is the best one to arrange your boat and ground transfers so they can bring you all the way to the hotel. The nicer resorts have their own boats and/or will meet you at the airport. If you don't arrange it beforehand, that is all right too. There are frequent chartered buses or vans from Kalibo to Caticlan which you can find on arrival. It is easy and inexpensive.

Kalibo does have some advantages...namely PAL flights PAL has a couple flights a day...with 150 seats...much easier to find a seat on short notice... PAL has a flight that gets in around 10 am..with the time to Boracay..you arrive just in time for hotel check-in at noon. Offten your goig to find late afternoon flights straight to Caticlan basically killing your first day... Out of Manila...domestic terminal for SEAir and AsianSpirit is a trip back to the 1950s for ticketing and PAX hndling...PAL has completely modern terminal.

MUCH easier via Caticlan.

Caticlan gets my vote too. Rob

My vote is for Caticlan as well...but Kalibo can have SOME advantages if you find yourself in a pinch trying to get into Boracay at on short notice.

Or if there was a big storm forecast...

Good thought..how often does caticlan close for bad weather?
|
Not sure. Probably not often enough!
