Machu Picchu with Apus Peru

I'm going to Peru at the end of July and am planning on hiking up to Machu Picchu on the Salkantay trail. I've researched several trekking groups and am the most pleased with the correspondence I've had with Apus Peru. However, I haven't been able to find many reviews on them. Has anyone trekked with them before? And, if so, would you recommend trekking with them?

Thanks

i've seen that apus peru has scans of their trip reports on their website, and sometimes people write their email addresses on there. perhaps you could write to them and ask their opinion?

When you posted this question about Apus Peru, I did a search on this forum. While the company name comes up often, I could not find any reviews of anyone who had actually trekked with them.

We trekked the Inca Trail with Llama Path & were most pleased with their services, as were many others. They also lead a Salkantay trek.

Many other trek agencies offering the Inca Trail trek also do the Salkantay, so you might be better off looking a companies recommended by those who have used their services. I would think that a company who has pleased Inca Trail trekkers would also do a fine job on the Salkantay. Other companies often recommended include Qente & Pachamama Explorers, in addition to LP. From what I can tell from their website, Peru Treks does not do the Salkantay.

Redhead has a good question. They come highly recommended, but who has trekked with them? I, too have researched the company and find a lot of reference to their website, which is good. But there are very limited reviews. Kinda makes me worry.

I am doing the Salkantey Trek in early July (next week) with Chaska Tours. I didn'f find much about them on this forum, but they were reccomended in the Frommer's forum and have been very responsive so far.

Have you contacted them?

Thank you everybody for your responses. Based on reviews I've read from people who have actually made the trek, I think I'm going to go with Llama Path...I tried to go to Apus Peru's website today and for some reason it won't come up...

did you access their website and see the handwritten reports on there, with many many email addresses that you could write to, to ask for an opinion?

i should add that I know the owners of both Llama Path and of Apus Peru and the reason why you will get a lot more reports on Llama Path is that they are now a really HUGE company with a massive turnover of clients annually. they started a couple of years before Apus Peru, and have a different ethos in terms that they intended on going big. Apus Peru, I think, does not have the same intention of being a 'big' company with an large annual turnover. I could be wrong but thats the impression i get.
