 Barefoot, Oarsman or Octopus?

My boyfriend and I are going to Fiji for a week at the end of November. We were in Fiji a couple of years ago and heard good things about these places. We mainly want a good swimming beach and excellent snorkelling off the resorts beach.

We are also on a bit of a budget, so Octopus is as pricey as we can afford. Just.

Can anyone give me some advice? I especially can't find much about Barefoot. We stayed at Manta Ray last time and Barefoot looked quite nice.

Thanks!!

Barefoot is very basic. Traditional bures, sand floor, cold water and no electricity in the bures. You can go to beaches on either side of the island, sunrise and sunset so you can always find a sheltered spot out of the wind.

The snorkeling is amazing off the north point in Manta Ray passage. Like swimming in an aquarium. May to October you can swim with the Manta Rays there. Food good but basic. Worth it for a few days. Oarsmans Bay has more comfortable bures with basic food, but one of the most beautiful beaches in Fiji and all tide swimming and great snorkeling off one end. This too is worth a few days visit. Octopus is more resorty, with swimming pool and a good beach and snorkeling at high tide. Food is good too. You could spend a few days at each as all are on the Yasawa Flyer transfer route. You could do Octopus, Barefoot then Oarsmans or the other way round and save the best for last.

It may be cheaper to buy a Bula Pass from Awesome Adventures who run the Yasawa Flyer. You can email naditravelcentre@awesomefiji.com.fj and get a quote and compare the normal rate with the Bula Pass. Bula Pass allows you to travel from top to bottom or bottom to top of the Yasawa Islands getting off as often as you like but not doubling back in a set number of days eg. 7day Pass, 10 day Pass etc. Sometimes it is cheaper sometimes not. The boat trip is interesting too. Have a great holiday.

My boyfriend and I were in Fiji in April this year and stayed in about 4 different spots all around Fiji, one of them being Oarsmans Bay. I did a lot of research on all the places and as we were on a budget as well so we stayed our first 4 nights at Oarsmans. The beach is absolutely lovely! The clearest water I've ever seen and the best snorkelling ever. And the boat trip to Nanuya which is about 10 mins away, is fantastic and the snorkelling there is even better. Had a fantastic time there however, there are numerous issues with the staff at Oarsmans. Most of the staff are nice but not as friendly as the other Fijians we encounted. Also we weren't able to have cocktails as they had no fruit juice and limited drinks as they had not ordered any. The food was usually okay, however you don't get any choice, which didn't really worry us but other people weren't happy with the food at all.

It is situated in the most beautiful place, and well worth the visit, probably not more than a few nights though. If you are a patient person and prepared to negotiated with the staff you should have a good time.

We had a lot of people leave Oarsmans Bay days early as they were unsatisfied and went to mantra or octopus. Both I heard we great.

Hope you have a good trip.

thanks!

We've booked 3 nights at Barefoot and are trying to decide where to go for the last 3 nights. Oarsman, Octopus or a new contender Naqalia lodge...

I'd choose Octopus!! It's a very professionally run operation.
