Hi there, Pls help! Due to a tyrannical boss I am being forced to take my very limited vacay time early-in Feb. With hardly any time to plan this I was hoping someone would help us decide where to go. Please note I am posting this in several CA forums to get different perspectives. We have been to Costa Rica (osa) before and loved it and are looking for something similar but with a bit more local color/flavor. We are both in our mid 30’s and don’t really care about nightlife, we would love a Jungly beach. beautiful flowers and vegetation, animals(monkeys pls) outside your door, a quirky town with local art and handicrafts. We live in NYC and really need to be immersed in nature. We have only 5 days and would like to spend them in CA. Thanks for any help |

Took me a while to stop laughin' at your handle name. How about livin' up here upstate? Then, you might have a reason to say it's cold. ha ha I'd say grab yourself a Footprint Mexico/Central America travel book. I live by those things and they help me out tremendously. Last Feb (2006) I spent the week in El Salvador. Stayed two nights at a backpacker hotel on the beach and loved it! The pigs and chickens ran around on the sand and you had to avoid them. I took a LONG walk along the sand clear across town all the way down to a glamorous resort and enjoyed the nothing-ness along the way. The taxi ride to the place I stayed was 10 USD and I go that right as I left the airport. Then, I caught a bus right outside of that beach hotel and headed to San Vicente for the day. The hotels there were terrible and so I only spent a few hours takin' pics there and then headed to San Miguel. Spent two nights there in that big city and walked around takin' more pics. (For my enjoyment as well as for my classroom and to show my students) Then, I went back to San Salvador and stayed there for the remaining days of my week. I did San Salvador in a day (Go see the El Rosario church if you get to the capital!). Then, the other days I took the bus in the morning to Santa Ana and then returned to San Salvador in the late afternoon/evening. The other day I did the same for the city of Suchitoto. Both were cool & full of culture. As I see you're more "jungly" oriented, I'm wonderin' if you'd just end up stayin' near the ocean coast side of the country. Just a quick summary of my trip there. Hope that helps. Stay warm there in NYC! ha ha

HEy! its is cold here! my boyfirend is from upstate too and always laughs at me when I say its cold here. Well looks like my boss took a wee bit of pity on me and it allowing more days off (if I work more) so now it looks like I will be traveling to Spain for work and pleasure.
I do so appreicate your info and will keep it for next vacay. I can not wait to see the rest of CA. keep warm!

Royal Decameron Salinitas is the BEST! Lots of jungly things to do - there's a canopy/mountain biking/rappelling tour, you can climb a volcano, or fly over one, or drive up one and then enjoy cascading falls, there's a craft and culture tour, a coffee tour, a Mayan civilization tour... you can visit Guatemala and see some truly amazing architecture and ruins... and the resort is beautiful and friendly, food is great... this place has it all. If you can, stay two weeks to be able to enjoy all the benefits and do as many tours as possible!
