Anyone been there? Website? (Cannot find one) How does it compare to Bananas, which I stayed at eight years ago?
Hi. I did not stay at hotel sister moon, but did walk by it on a hike around the island on my visit to Isla Grande. It seems to me that most of the places on that side of the island are all pretty much the same. somewhat rustic but nice enough. I stayed at Cabanas Cholita (http://www.islagrandecholita.com) and we loved it. It is the hotel directly off of the pier where the little boats dock from the mainland. Despite a few issues (toilet didn't work a couple of times, shower consisted of a PVC pipe dribbling water out of the wall). For us though, those things didn't matter. We LOVED the island... the relaxed atmosphere - the drinks - just lounging around. Don't expect anything like a resort away from Bananas, but I preferred to be on the side of the island where people were over the "comforts" of Bananas. And the accomodations are cheaper on the other side too! Food was great at all of the places we went... try the Congo Restaurant just down the path - we loved it there and had dinner there both nights we were on the island.
Haven't been there for quite a bit - well over a year and when I was there the rooms were looking like they needed a bit of TLC... The setting is great, small pool and deck with a bar...
Can't remember if any of their rooms had a/c...
Certainly not the level that Banana's offers but the price is a lot less too.
It looks like their site is down - http://www.hotelsistermoon.com but their phone numbers are:

Stayed her 1.5 years ago. It's in a great location, about a 5-10 min walk to the town along a path at the edge of the sea. It's seen better days, but is very clean & tidy. Bananas is def. a few notches above Hotel Sister Moon, bu Bananas felt lonely & removed from things. If you don't mind "bare-bones", clean but unmatched sheets, Sister Moon is a quirky, cool little spot.
Gosh, thanks for the info. We will probably do Isla Grande on our next visit.
We ended up staying at Playa Blanca with our Panamanian friends. Didn't know what to expect but we LOVED it -- much to my surprise since we realized this was the first resort we had ever stayed at since our honeymoon. Cost for the three of us (two adults and one child) was $124 a night, all-inclusive. Perfect place to unwind after a busy week of sightseeing.
