 Where to stay in Odessa?

Hi all, we're planning to visit Odessa in July, and wonder which part of the city is best to stay in? We would like to be near restaurants, nightlife etc, and close to transport to the beach. Maybe we would be better staying at the beach? I'd appreciate any adcvice. Thanks.

The center of Odessa is Deribasovskaya street. It has all the cafes and restaurants, no vehicle traffic.Best place for people watching. My husband and I rented apartment on Sadovaya street, which is 1 minute from Deribasovskaya in a small Apartment Hotel "Paradis". It was very convinient, plus they just finished repairs so it looked new. I am not sure if it is appropriate to post phone numbers here, but you can "google" it if you want. We paid $60 per night for one-bedroom with jacuzzi and kitchen.

Hello Lola

The following are good links for you to have a look at for Odessa Hotels and general information on Odessa. I was in Odessa last July and had a brilliant time. It is truly a great city. I found the best beaches to visit during the day were at Otrada. We stayed at the Ayvazovsky Hotel in the city centre. It is a great little hotel. The best nightclubs can be found at Arcadia Beach area

Usually I stay at hotels, but during last trip I realized that it's better to rent apartment in Odessa. It's cheaper and much more comfortable. I found out a firm - odessarentaflat (com). I rented the wonderful apartment right in the center, it cost 56$. Instead of many hotels these apartments was not "soviet type" but "western standards". (The hotel with the same comfort level would be cost approximately 4 times higher.) I even had english programmed computer with free internet! They also have transfer.

Definitely avoid the overprices hotels in Odessa....I have been many times and stayed in Odessa Hotel (very expensive and lacking in any atmosphere - I hate it personally), Continental Hotel (not so expensive but not good value either), the Chernoye More (Black Sea) Hotel....which was the best of the three, and not bad prices (the breakfast was ochin / very tasty!)

Last 2 times I been I stayed in a rented appartment, which has a massive living room, bathroom, kitchen and bedroom...a short bus / taxi ride to the centre of Odessa(60 UAH / $10).....for just 50$ per day.....great.
