We normally holiday all over the US, and you tend to know what to expect. We are bit weary about Dubai. Although the apartments are near the Mall of Emirates it doesn't look like you can walk to the beach (anyone know which are free?). What is the best way to get to the town, eg the Gold Souk etc?

Hi there, I'm guessing that you mean you're wary or Dubai and not weary!

As you saw when you looked on the other post, it's a good central location and near to lots of attractions. However, you definitely can't walk to any of the beaches. There's a free beach between Jumeriah Hilton and Jumeirah Sheraton but it's totally overwhelmed by the Beach Residence construction (lost count of the number of tower blocks going up) and you're in full view of all the construction workers which can be disconcerting, upsetting etc.

The other free beach is miles away further up the coast beyong Jumeirah Beach Hotel.

Hotel beaches aren't free to non-guests but check out this: tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g295424-i872-k1462…

It may well be that as the hotels are getting very busy now that they may (may only) say that the beach is for residents and beach club members only. Call to check, especially on Friday and Saturday as Friday is the weekend here.

The best way to get around is by taxi and they're plentiful and cheap. How many of you will there be? There's a Big Bus Company tour you could do -

A city tour on The Big Bus Company (dhs150/person) or a private tour with Arabian Adventures or another tour company. It's the same company as in London and you can hop on and off the bus to see the bits you want to see:

www.bigbus.co.uk/dub/html/dub_contact.html

arabian-adventures.com/ToursSafaris/…

Or if there are more than say 2 of you it might be cheaper to use a cab.

Big Bus 150dhs each. Cab depending on where you go maybe 200 -> 300dhs.

Cab will be air conditioned, only some of the buses have their lower deck with A/C.

Hope this helps.

Thank you muchly for your kind advice. We are 2 adults and a 13 year old child in our small party so imagine taxi is best.

Hello

We will be going to Al Barsha this Sunday also, only for 1 night to rest the kids up before our flight to Scotland,it does look very nice.

Here,s hoping it's all good.

On the way back from our holiday we will stay at The Waterfront Apartments in Dubai for 3 nights as apparently The Al Barsha is in quite an industrial area, although it is close to the Mall of Emirates.

Never been to the UK or Dubai so I'm a touch nervous, but sure I will have a great time, hope you do too.

hope to hear from you,bye from West Oz

What a shame we will miss you. We leave the UK on Sunday and arrive early Monday morning about 10sih local time. Yeah i read that there is a lot of building work going on around that area too, but i think the same is all over Dubai actually. The apartments look beautiful so i hope we are not disappointed.

I hope you enjoy Engalnd, it is a lovely place, but not as beautiful as OZ. We keep saying we will go there but our daughter is only 12 and would not appreciate such an expensive and long haul journey. My husband only wants to go to get parts for his Australian 1972 Falcon!!!! Men......
