 City River Hotel or Somadevi

Hi,

We will be in SR for 3 nights during mid February 2010 and after what seems like endless research on TA , I have finally narrowed our hotel choice to either City River or Somadevi. BUT...now I can't decide which one to choose!!! Both hotels are within walking distance to Pub St, markets etc, both get good reviews on TA , both have pools and good breakfasts. I was hoping that someone out there in TA land can help me decide?? We are a couple and will be travelling with our 4 yo son.

I was also wondering if I should be booking now or should I wait until it gets closer to Feb??

Many thanks

Maxrub

We stayed in the City River in July, so can only comment on this hotel.

Top pool on the roof, very quiet hotel. Modern, clean and freindly helpful staff. Short walk across the river to all the action, loved it.

Had our 13 year old son with us and the room was very spacious.

I stayed at the City River Hotel in September 2009. I did reserve on-line before arrival. The hotel was not busy. Excellent in all respects: laundry service, pool on rooftop, message included, internet, purchased at the desk a bus ticket to Phnom Penh, friendly staff and reasonable English speakers. Easy walk to Market/Pub Area and tut-tuts in front of hotel for travel to Angkor Wat (of course they are all over). Room was huge. Really ate large at breakfast buffet. Price was about $70. for two nights and would have paid three times that in the U.S.A..

Thank you to everyone for your input. I think City River is looking good.

I will email both hotels first and see what rates they can give me for Feb.(and thank you to Paul99 for that tip!!). Phew...now the search for hotels in PP begins!!!
