 goa - suitable for kids?

Hi,

I'm thinking of Goa in October / Novemeber time for my 30th Birthday. I'll be taking along my fiance and 20mth daughter.

Could anyone confirm if it would be suitable for us, in particular my daughter.

regards

that,s a tricky question and neither a right or wrong answer to this.it,s a matter of choice.the season dosen,t start to november so if going go mid november.as for a child there is the problem of malaria as adults we can take preventive measures but can,t give malaria tablets to children.there,s also injections to be had hep a,typhoid etc doubt if child old enough to have them.you would need to get taxi,s everywhere which not a problem as so cheap won,t break the bank.as roads have pot holes and get very busy so problem pushing a buggy around.

I think it would depend on where you are staying. Maybe in a 5 star hotel it could be ok but it will be hot, the plane journey is very long and don't forget there are mossies! The roads are not brilliant for using a pushchair.

This question usually causes great debate but these are just my thoughts!

Hi Garry

A lot of people return to Goa in October but the tourist season does not start until November when the beach shacks and restaurants open again.

November is a good time weather wise as it is cool in the evenings and sunny but not too hot in the day time

Our daughter came out with her 4 and 19 month old children in April and had no special problems even though it was very hot and humid. They stayed with us for two weeks so we took them out and about in the car but the last week they stayed at the Marinha Dourda and spent a lot of time in the pool in the day time and we walked out at night to the eating places in Apora or Baga creek.

I would say your biggest problem would be keeping her entertained on the return flight as that is in the in the day time, where as the out flight is over night

Hi Garry

as has already been said this question causes a lot of response. Personally I think Goa is a fantastic place for kids of all ages and mid to late november is ideal weather wise as not humid and nice and cool at night. You might like to look at the South as it is less comercialised than the north and has better beaches. We have taken our son who is now 13 since he was 8 and he loves Goa,we have also taken my sisters son aged 5 and he had a great time. The locals love kids and will welcome you with open arms. The only concern would be malaria and how you would deal with prevention but with common sense and covering up it is possible to be safe without tablets although I would not recommend you and your partner not to take them. Anyway whatever you decide have a great time if you go.

Hi Garry

My daughter and her husband have been the last two years, with us around Christmas.

My Grandson was 18 months the first year and he had a ball. Loved it even better the second year and he loved running about on the beach.

Would advise good accomodation. We have a flat which has all amenities - cooking facilities, air conditioning, water filter, washing machine.

Yes it is quite difficult with a buggy but it is mahageable.

And the Restaurants will make anything for the kids - but no high chairs (although one borrowed one for us.

I believe you can get malaria tablets/suspension for kids but you may have to pay in the UK. Buy the mosquito bands (non-deet) for kids. They were great.

Enjoy !!!
