 Blues Goa Blog 2011/2012 Season.

Hi.

A number of people have been asking me for a 2011/12 Blues Blog/Thread for the current season (you need to get out more – lol!).

In past seasons we have had a ‘Nice To Meet Other T/A Goa Forum Members’ thread – see

tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g297604-i6045-k403…

– which has apparently been very popular, and has also managed to bring together many T/A members actually ‘In The Flesh’, so to speak. And it’s been fun! I have personally been honoured to meet hundreds of T/A Goa Forum members (and Browsers) over the past few seasons.

Anyway, for a change this season I’m gonna try an ongoing ‘Open’ Blog, sort of a season long ‘Trip Report’, reporting what we see and encounter on our way around Goa throughout the season. We arrived late October 2011 and will be here until late April 2012. Also, I propose that this is an OPEN thread, so if anyone else wishes to add their experiences or comments, please feel free to do so, you are most welcome.

The weather over the past few days has been quite changeable – A bit cloudy, and then sunny, and a little rain here and there but not much. It’s a bit humid today, Monday 28/11, but overall it’s still OK.

I hope that the forecasted rains and storms do not materialise over the next few days, coz we’re due to be staying in a beach hut at Aswem Wednesday to Friday this week.

And next week, we will be staying down in ‘Gemma Country’ – Cavelossim – Monday to Wednesday, to celebrate a friend’s birthday. There are 12 of us going down, and we’ve apparently got a boat trip (not Betty’s) on the Tuesday.

Tonight we are going to a 1st birthday party in Candolim for the daughter of a Goan friend. Last year we were invited to the Christening Party, and we were the only Europeans there, out of hundreds of people. A great honour. Should be fun.

Traffic............................................................

Actually Sunday evening seemed a bit busier, but generally it has seemed a bit lighter over the past week or so.

And, as Bruahy has remarked, there are still many domestic tourists on hire bikes/scooters whizzing around everywhere in groups. Why do they suddenly all stop together on a junction, totally blocking it, and chat, or talk about where to go next.

I do have to say though, driving at night, which I do a lot of, I have noticed that cars are ‘dimming’ their lights more than I have ever known, and if they haven’t, and you flash them, they then dim them. Amazing!! I’m gobsmacked! We’ve both remarked about it.

I had two punctures in less than two weeks!!!! One in aswem, and one late at night at SBR. Different tyres each time. I took them to the tyre repair centre at Anjuna petrol pump, and he said that both were ‘Dry Punctures’ (along with the wagging head etc – lol!) – i.e. no nail etc, just a break down of a join/seal etc. 50 rps each time to repair the innertube and put the tyre back in the boot – Bargain!!

The car is VERY dirty at the mo. Lots of dust etc, and we park under a tree, and the birds think that our car is their private toilet! PMSL! I must get it cleaned.

We have eaten in many places since we arrived 4 ½ weeks ago, but our favourites have been – Seaview and Bed Rock both at Aswem, Kim Faa in Baga Road, and Kalinga in Candolim, plus Q-Ba at Little Vagator.

There are also a couple of ‘Locals’ places that we often eat at which are good.

And, the ‘Real Italian pizza’ stall at Mackie’s Market produced surprisingly good pizza’s.

Polly and Nigel the birthday boy from Jambalaya invited us to join them this evening at The Oriental (Thai restaurant that used to be at the Mira Hotel) at its new home where Roma used to be just off Holiday Street in Calangute

We arrived just after eight and picked our table not far from the pool and ordered our drinks but before we had time to have a taste we felt few drops of rain

Now been a person who doesn't like to have his drink diluted to much, we decided to move indoors but found a table under the roof of the old pizza oven and laughed at how we had panicked after just a few spots of rain

We ordered our meals and more drinks that arrived with a complementary taster but before the waiter had time to put ice in our drinks the heavens just opened, the poor soul got drowned going back the main building but still turned up smiling to clear away before our main course's arrived

I must say that while we was the only one still in he garden we received excellent service, the food was fabulous and was still at last season's prices

We had a lovely evening with good company also had a chat to Bob and Linda from Nicks place and Henry popped over to say hello and buy us a brandy, making a very nice finish to our evening

Hope it rains next time we go there as we could not have asked for a better evening

I would also like to thank Tom for two great evening at Jambalaya

The first on the twentieth was a touch and go affair if the place would even open that evening but with normal Indian timing nearly everything was in full working order about a second before the first customer walked in

By nine o'clock the place was packed and extra tables and chairs were sent for,Tom did the Birthday ladies Mrs Dragon and Welloutofit proud and every one was up and dancing until late, even had a police watcher out on the road so Tom could keep singing

This week it was Renee and Nigel's birthdays and there was lots of TAers there as well but I had a right moody on and was well peed off as they had no Tuborg or Kings, I was even drinking water before I went over the road to Bending Bamboo for a beer or three but when I came back they had large bottles of Tuborg strong (gold), I think my little brother the Dragon had told them very nicely, get something we could drink or else

Anyway it all turned out to be a fun evening in the end with lots of dancing and the audience having to help Tom out as usual but the main thing is the birthday guy and girl had a great time and enjoyed themselves
