It certainly is not good news.
Is the Goa Government shooting itself in the foot (yet again) right in the middle of the tourist season?

We were told it was supposed to start in Candolim last thursday and although some smaller places did close at 10pm 99% did not, but were wary and watched for the police. Once again, when the tourist figures are down for next year they will wonder why...and it will be everyone elses fault except their own!
Blimey, presumably it means there won't be any beach parties as they're only getting going by 10pm :-( We'd better try and go to one in our first week if that's the case. 10pm is ridiculously early.
Hi friends,
Do not worry this is only for election purposes. Once elections are over, the enjoyment will resume.
Just bear with the biggest democracy by number in the world and witness the election process, which is considered as biggest wonder.

Not good news but it is only for the election, we were in Argentina in October and there was no alcohol whatsoever for 2 full days.
Woopiwoo. We arrive on 5th Feb. Looks like a lot of early nights for us then!! Will this also apply to hotel bars?? This will affect our entire two week holiday. Does make you wonder if they actually want tourists in Goa! Lx
Edited: 24 January 2012, 7:49If this happens I'll be thinking twice about wether to come back to Goa next year , I would imagine many others will too.
Dont know if its true, but we were told it wont affect hotel bars as you are guests....but as i said..its only what we were told.
Also it all depends on what licence the bars/restaurants hold. For instance our local here has a 24 hour licence,so has continued to open for as long as it wants while all the others have been closing by 11pm.This has nothing to do with the police it's the excise and election departments that are enforcing this early closing.Whether they will be allowed to stay open next month is another matter.

That may be true, but if you are one of the tourists who have saved all year to holiday in Goa and your visit is over the election period - which incidentally has absolutely nothing to do with British tourists - and you can't get a drink in a bar or restaurant after 10pm, then your 'enjoyment' of Goa may be severely curtailed and may result in you not going back (considering the added hoo-haa of the 10 sunbed rule and visa issues).
I personally don't wish to witness the election process of any country that I happen to be holidaying in - that's not what i go on holiday for.
That said, the newspaper report is about South Goa, maybe the North won't be so draconian.
