 Goa Airport by Bus

For those of you on a tight budget or who like me, prefer not to support The Taxi Drivers Benevolent Association, it is easy to get to Dabolim by bus.

There are a number of major hubs for buses in Goa, Margao for the south and Panjim and Mapusa for the north. All send buses to Vasco and most, if not all, pass the airport. From these hubs you can reach just about anywhere in Goa.

Example: Benaulim to airport via Margao took 1.25 hrs and cost 27R's/person. Taxi from Benaulim to said airport 750R's and takes around 40 minutes.

One draw back, buses start around 06.30am and finish around 19.30pm but, if you have a mind, itcanbedone!

1. Re: Goa Airport by Bus

have you ever tried to get on one of these bus`s yourself let alone with luggage ?

I really would not want to go on a death race

If I have paid a large amount of money for my holiday to Goa 1000 rupes is nothing to pay for comfort and the shortest time to get to mydestination

its a no brainer

Its a good idea if you are young, dont mind the dirt and lack of speed or the long trek to the bus stop which you dont know the location of anyway, or have all your belongings in a rucksack, or know exactly where you are going, and dont mind the trek from the bus stop to the hotel, and are happy to share a seat with a goat.

However, if you are middle aged or older, have kids, sixteen bags, half of which contain duty free because its 'dry', havent slept for a day, are still recovering from accidently going to the wrong terminal at Gatwick, still slightly under the weather due to overuse of whiskey miniatures on the flight, or have a wife so worried she has already used a bottle of antisceptic gel before she got out of the airport, then a bus might be a really dumb idea.

I did say budget travellers not the 2 week 'I'm in a hurry' brigade.

Lizzybetblue, please read the post before replying in anger, note 'budget travellers'. As taxi's travel faster than buses and they are just as likely to have an accident, as we saw in Mapusa, then I'd rather be in a bus than a mashed up taxi. But then this is your decision, I just give you information to give you the choice. If you don't want ther information then don't read TA.

We use the buses a lot, I am retired so I have time and travel very light, but I've yet to meet a goat, well not a real one!

Whisperer 1....excellent, had me and the old goat LOL....just got a slap for that!

Hi friends,

It does not matter whether you are retired or whether you have a small budget. It is a matter of attitude.

"Itcanbedone" you are extremely positive, practical and ready to face life (with all its difficulties) with a smile.

Lizzibetblue does not even tolerate the idea of thinking bus as an option.

Whisperer1 has given a thought to the option but being very realistic feels that with all the practical difficulties, it is not his cup of tea (or a glass of Honeybee or Romanov LOL)

One thing I forgot to mention is that there is another benefit to catching the bus.

On the bus I meet local people, we chat, exchange information and share things....I think that's good for me and good for Indians too.

One day the bus from Margao was so packed that a small boy was in danger of being crushed so I managed to rescue him and his mothers baggage. I would have given her my seat but it was impossible to move. She was extremely grateful.

In my taxi cocoon I meet only myself...how dull.
