Hi AII,
Can anyone give me any info on any Bird Watching Trips or Bird Watching locally as my OH is a keen bird watcher. We are staying at the Riverside Regency by Baga Creek.
Thanks for any replies in advance

Yes mate,
Just don't let the wife see you watching, I usually get a clip at back of head !
Oh, sorry , wrong birds !!
Lol
dont know of any trips but we stay at the beira mar in baga it backs onto the fields and is very popular with bird watchers you seen many with fancy camaras sat buy the pool nobody would say anything if you just walked in and bought a drink unless it was early march
Dr Salim Ali's Bird sanctuary - most taxi drivers will know of it - means an early start and a ferry then you go out on the river in a dug our canoe - lovely!
there are reviews on here - I did it once a few years ago and plan to do it again this time - when are you over there? We fly on 10th staying in Candolim
We went on an overnight trip in a house boat with John's Boat Tours. Loads of birds.
See Cheshire Rose's post yesterday.
The best day trip is to the "Backwoods", however, they are not too reliable re. the pick up. We waited two days for them at an ungodly hour in the morning only to have both trips cancelled.

I know you are in Baga but if you fancy a day out there is a guy in Colva, Shiva, who does bird watching trips and all the people I have met rate him very highly..
He is more than that though, he is s local celebrity, he is walking post code directory for the UK, speaks a number of languages and is just generally a very fascinating guy.
Shiva no longer works the beach, he did the bird watching, sold newspapers and books, also stamps and cards, he also speaks 6 different languages, he now has a fulltime job in Colva, the last email I received from Benaulim said that he was off work because he was badley bitten by a stray dog ( sorry to the blinkered few, talking about dog bites ).
f you get a room in the newer block D at the back of the Riverside Regency, there are many interesting birds to be seen from your own balcony. Further up the Baga Creek Road towards Marinha Dourada, there are lakes with waders. Take a trip down to the Chapora river beyond Siolim. There's a little juice bar there right next to the bridge called Juice-Up where you can sit and watch Smyrna or White-Throated kingfishers, Pied and Stork-Billed kingfishers at close range. Also Brahminy Kites, White Bellied Eagles and Buzzards. They also do really cheap omlettes and gorgeous ice cream sundaes. In the bushes and palms at the back of the more northern beach shacks (Ashwem and Mandrem beaches) there are plenty of interesting birds...Bee-eaters etc. Hire a scooter or get a taxi to those areas. Enjoy!
llyndan,
Shiva is fine, showed us his bite, not nice, and he is still doing bird watching, cookery lessons and renting bikes etc. He's just the same as when I first met him 8 years ago.
