 An alternative to Goa??

Hi everyone, I really need some advise....

My girlfriend and I are due to visit goa from 11/2/12 for 12 nights, unfortunately this is bang in the middle of an enforced curfew by the local government that restricts the sale of alcohol after 10pm. This isn't the main issue, the fact all restaurants also have to shut to is....this meaning our evenings end at 10pm!! We are meant to be on holiday!!

Anyway, seriously considering changing internal flights to Kerala instead. Trouble is we know very little about it.

Could anyone advise on possible beach locations that have a good vibe and decent nightlife for a couple in early 30s. We don't want all night party's but a selection of bars staying open till a decent time.

We also like to explore the local area to experience culture and sites, so ideally we would be well located for day time activities other than beach / pool.

I know it's a big ask on a short time frame but maybe, just maybe it's possible to change our plans!

Thanks everyone!

Dan

Hi Daniel,

Look up the Varkala Forums and the Kovalam Forums. The nightlife is not as vibrant as Goa, but you will avoid the early closing problem that is in Goa this year due to elections. Mind you, Kerala is overall much quieter than Goa.

hi akadaniel , if late night parties , late nigh restaurants and a nightlife is not possible in Goa , try posting the same query in Mumbai forum. Mumbai is said to have the best nightlife in India and sometimes referred to as the " city which never sleeps".

in your case this kind of environment with a beach very closeby would be ideal for you . well Mumbai has beaches but it would also have the daily hustle and bustle of a metropolis. but you can find out some quieter ones close to Mumbai.

As i have been to Mumbai just once in my life and that too long back i wont recommend you anything. but posting the query under Mumbai forum would definitely help.

As brave1 said , plz expect Kerala o be much quieter than Goa in terms of your requirements.

Thanks ppl.

Mumbai isn't really an option. We want to head south and are travelling from Delhi.

What sort of nightlife are we likely to find in the more lively resorts of Kerala?

Daniel,

Why don't you go through the Varkala forums ? There are bars by the cliff as well as restaurants. Perhaps Igirl, the DE for Varkala might be able to help you better.

Hello,

If you are looking more private time and relax, go to Agatti. a island near to Kerala, In india, 45 mts flying. A nice place for relax, calm, . Or plan 5 day in Agatti and rest of the days in hill station and houseboat in Kerala.

Or Go to Kovalam beach, Alleppey houseboat and Munnar hills , a best option of exotic and romantic tour.

Greetings

I went to Kovalam 3 years ago.It was ok but it wasn't Goa,the beaches were a lot smaller no shacks and most places was beer in a teapot.More expensive no night life we struggled to find a taxi after 11 o' clock.there is plenty to trip wise there are some really nice places to visit ....
