 walk in accommodation

Hi all

Is it possible in mid November to just turn up or is it best to book in advance. We would only be staying a maximum of 3 nights and would be looking for budget - mid range in costs

Also if anyone knows a rough cost for a taxi from trivandrum airport to varkala that woud be great.

Thanks in advance

Blue

For all the rest, I think Deepak Dayanandan (Indian_Tours) will eventually step in and help. If he happens to miss this, PM him, but request that he posts the reply here, since it is useful for other travellers too.

I did that last year with no problem. As ALL charter flights from the UK have stopped there should be plenty of empty rooms.

Munnar is much soguht after by domestic tourist and from the previous years i feel that it gets really busy by oct- Nov till Jan , especiall a week before and after the holidays during Diwali celebration in North India

but incase you want to do it the other way , confirm the room for your first night and may be you can walk in to other places for teh remianing days or stay at he same location if you prerfer to do so

but i would suggest to book in advance

best regards

While tourism may be down, Nov-end-Jan is peak season, so Deepak's advice is sensible-book a room for Day 1 at least, which allows you to check out options once you arrive. We paid around 900 for a cab ride, around noon, to Trivandrum a couple of years ago, my guess is that it may be closer to 1000 from the aiport.

1)Is it possible in mid November to just turn up or is it best to book in advance.?

Its possible indeed!..just check out even at the high end range as well and just bagain..you can even find a luxuary room for GBP 18.

The other side of it is that you must have that special patience to go look around peacefully and find that dream hotel after a long journey. You will be greeted everywhere with "YOU WANT ROOM SIRS??" from autodrivers, hoteliers..and you name it.

2)Rough cost for a taxi from trivandrum airport to varkala.

At the airport, there is a pre-paid taxi service counter provided by the airport authorities. They will charge you INR 1200.

Apart from my first nights upon arrival in India, I've never booked a hotel in nearly 6 years of travel. That includes in Varkala.

I actually hopped in an autoricksaw from Trivandrum airport to Varkala in May, and I paid 550R.
