Essaouira tends to be particularly windy in June, July and August and for sure, you can get sandblasted! It isn't necessarily windy every day though and ost riads and hotels have roof terraces which are real sun traps without any wind. As mentioned, hotewl pools can be used for a fee and there is the beach and kite surf club Ocean Vagabond which has sheltered sun bathing. The weather in Essaouira is much molder than in Marrakech, so it never gets as cold as Marrakech in Winter or as hot in summer. Mostly it is between 17 and 27 degrees althopugh it can feel hotter in the sun. When it is cold and rainy, the general coastal damp in the town and the lack of heating in the houses and restaurants can make it feel really chilly. A snuggly fleece and warm socks are always good 'just in case' and having contingency plans for very windy days is a good idea too. Still, despite its windy reputation, Essaouira is mostly just gorgeous, warm and sunny!
