How long does it take to walk from the top of the ropeway on Miyajima Island to the summit of Mt Misen? And is it a steep climb? I have two different maps of the island, neither of which offer much of an idea about the distance or steepness of the walk from the end of the ropeway to the summit.
It's been thirty years since I did this, but we walked in street shoes (in those days "street shoes" were semi-dressy--not athletic). See the bottom of this page; it says a half hour and a bit steep: http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e3451.html I would expect a well-maintained trail; on maps.google.com, it looks as wide as a road.

Hi Penelope, I did this walk (assuming you mean when you get off the cable car) in 2007 and it is very steep in parts and I found it a challenge. The track is often many, many steep steps.
But it is worth the view, have a break and then of course a down hill return.
I think it took about an hour?.

1) it will save me more time to see Hiroshima

The summit does offer fantastic views over the islands of the Seto-Inland Sea though....
Hi, i walked this about 10 days ago. I did the first part of the walk to the temple not realising that it was a bit steep, while a bit hard it is very picturesque and there is shade and seats along the way and I took my time. i did not go all the way to the top (another 20 minutes return), my husband did he said it was worth, but he is fitter than I. The view from the temple is also quite good.
