Hello, we just returned from a week long stay and it was a great week! We drove from suburbs of Phila and it took 8 hours. Worst part of the drive was through VA/DC area. We stayed on the beach in a duplex which was nice especially since we could bring the dog.

Our teenagers liked the vacation overall but there was really no night life for them. As others have said, its great for the beach during the day, and a restaurant at night. If your not into history, nature tours, fishing, etc, there's not much else to do. Our teenagers didnt complain as they did enjoy Beaufort, the 4th of July parade, the old cemetary, and the waterfront shopping. My husband and son liked pier fishing and went out on a chartered deep sea fishing trip and did well. We really liked the NC Aquarium in nearby Pine Knoll. Atlantic Beach provided a nice fireworks display. All in all, I think its a nice place if you want no frills, just a family oriented, quiet relaxing vacation. If you are bringing teenagers who need the excitement of a boardwalk, amusement rides, beach parties at night, you wont find it here. It was a great place for family activities. We dragged our teens to several places/attractions and they actually ended up liking it. The kids were disappointed as we were supposed to have internet connection there but we couldnt access it properly. It was probably for the best though as we needed to escape from emails, IM's, etc. Personally, I liked the area and would go again. I usually go to the Northern Outerbanks and also New Jersey beaches so this was a nice change, for me anyway.

there's room to ride on the side of the main highway, just gotta be watchful...

Peppertree grounds have some areas to ride in but not much..

we used to head across the center of AB and continue down to Fort Macon, easy ride & less traffic once you get to the other side of AB stoplight

Next time you vacation south for the beaches and you need some night life for teenagers, try Wilmington, N.C., or Myrtle Beach, S.C..You could even split the vacation and stay in both. Myrtle Beach is only 45 minutes south of Wilmington, N.C., and the beach strip is a few miles long with tons to do (bars, night clubs, theme park rides, aqauriums,etc..). Very nice vacation spot, but it is very crowded in the summer. Young people also cruise the strip and it's an easy way for teens to met other teens and hang out while they're there. Wilmington is almost the same, and the USS North Carolina (WWII) sits in port, so you can tour the ship if that fancies you. Either one or both, you won't be disappointed.

We stayed on Glen st, right on the beach. Rented a duplex from AtlanticSun Properties, Patti was very nice, and provided us with any information we needed prior to and during our stay. As far as bike riding, the area where we stayed was not great for bike riding. You would have to drive to find bike trails/riding areas. I like to be able to ride my bike from where I'm staying, however, if you dont mind driving , there are many places you could park your car and then go bike riding. We were in the middle of town, close to all the main roads, traffic, etc. I am going to try Wilmington NC next year as someone has suggested....THANKS!

Thinking about staying at Dunescape condos July 2008. I have stayed at Peppertree about 10 years ago. Is the beach still nice, does it have lots of shells? Any good places to eat? We just got home from Carolina Beach and hated it. It was run down and dirty, with a narrow beach. Wrightsville beach I think is the best, however it's very pricey.

Our family just returned from Atlantic Beach on Tuesday and we had a wonderful time! The area is very nice and was not crowded, which I really liked! The weather was very hot....the ocean water was like bath water! We rented a great condo at the Southwinds Condos on Fort Macon Rd. It is at the end of the road....right before Fort Macon State Park and a nice quiet area. The beach was wonderful....very clean...the sand is white! Atlantic Beach is nice because it is centrally located to all the places to visit. Historic Beaufort, NC is close by.....a great little seaside town, with wonderful old homes, an old cemetery, the NC Maritime Museum, and a nice waterfront with lots of shops. It was my favorite area...we went there twice!! We took two different ferries to visit Cape Lookout and Shackleford Banks.....got tons of large shells! We also visited the Aquarium and Fort Macon, which were both very nice. I would definately recommend this area if you love the beach, historical sites, and a quieter family oriented vacation. We have been to the northern Outer Banks which we loved, but this area is just as nice as well....and alot less crowded.
