I would check out VRBO.com and search for a place in Wrightsville or Atlantic Beach. Wilmington is the biggest city near the coast here in NC. I like Emerald Isle, but it is not near a big town.

If you want something real touristy, try Myrtle Beach SC just south of the Wilmington Area, although I like the charm of Wilmington a lot more than Myrtle Beach.

Check out the beaches around Wilmington (Wrightsville, Topsail, Carolina, Kure) or go a little further south to the likes of Holden Beach or Sunset Beach, they will be within a 30 minute ride to the super-tourist destination of Myrtle Beach.

You can use VRBO.com and get a good idea of what homes rent for in the different areas or you could google and call the different realty companies in the area that you choose.
