Italian resturants

Hi! I will be there this weekend staying on the north side of town (I think the hotels address is 12000 I-35). My husband has told me to find a Italian resturant to go to...but I cant really find anything. Any suggestions? Im not very familiar with Austin. We dont want to have to drive too far as we wont be going until late in the evening. Any suggestions would be great! Thanks!!! :)

Carmelo's on 5th St. in the downtown area has delicious food, valet parking and lots of atmosphere. It's in an old stage depot.

Welcome to Austin!

Meza Luna was a good place originally. Maybe someone can indicate if the owners have resurfaced elsewhere.

I've heard good things about Andiamo on the north side, there is also a Bucco de Beppo up north. My favorite is La Traviata downtown.

We like Asti in the Hyde Park neighborhood, which is north of downtown.

It's slightly upmarket, although casual. Nice that you can order "downscale" (pizza) or "upscale" (buffalo something or other). Great wine selection and the waiters offer good suggestions on wine pairings. My only gripe is the wine by the glass costs more than it should.

There is a great new Italian place on San Antonio at 16th Street, just south of the UT campus. It's called Sagra and is located in a renovated older home. The food is great, inexpesive for what you get, and they have a great wine list.

i suggest going for Italian on south congress! visit http://www.austinvespaio.com/index.html. you can go to the enoteca side for a more casual feel (reasonably priced and really good food) or the vespaio side for a more formal dinner (also really good just more expensive). i recommend both, they are delicious! both often are crowded but vespaio usually has a longer wait...

Drats. Forgot about Sagra. I still like Asti a little bit more since it has a huge comfort factor for us, but Sagra is great and yes, has a good selection of wines and better prices by the glass than Asti.

Vespaio is wonderful but can be a zoo.
