30th bithday in Austin!

Hi,

I am planning to celebrate my 30th bithday in Austin. We've been to Austin a couple of times and enjoyed the nightlife but this time around we have our baby girl with us.Shes 3 months old.

Any suggestions on a good hotel, nice dinner and some family fun during the day?? We've only enjoyed the night life & music so far but I am sure theres plenty to do other than that.

P.S. we've done the bat trip, and the historical stuff already.

Thanks

Hotel: Another poster found a good deal ($110?) at the downtown Stephen Austin Intercontinental Hotel. If you can get a deal like that, grab it.

Nice dinner: Tough one with a baby (and I've been there!). Problem with most restaurants is the ambient noise, which drove our daughter nuts. A few restaurants still make her uncomfortable. One nice restaurant that passed the noise test was Chez Nous, a French restaurant off Sixth Street. It's very bistro like and smallish. Another nice restaurant, actually more expensive, is the Shoreline Grill, but only if you sit on the outside patio. Inside is way too noisy. Other favorites (i.e. Castle Hill, Manuel's) are too noisy for a kiddo.

Family fun: Zilker Park. Tour the botanical gardens and take your daughter on a ride of the Zilker Zephyr. If you're coming here before the end of April, visit the Ladybird Wildflower Center. I was just there and look forward to go back once again this spring.

Thanks a ton for all the suggestions.

As for ambient noise with the baby shes been pretty good with it so far.She likes the noise the lights and all the good stuff :) we've been to a LOT of restaurants and not had trouble.I guess she went to too many concerts when she was in a my tummy ;)

The activities sound like fun, and yes we are coming to Austin 12-13th April weekend.I also saw that theres some light and visual effect fair that weekend.Wonder whats that??

Will wait for more suggestions as we just need to book the hotel as we are driving from Dallas.

Thanks again.

if you do stay at the intercontinental (great hotel & super location) you can eat at the restaurant in the hotel. it's called the roaring fork and is delicious. it's owned by eddie v's- another nice austin restaurant within walking distance http://www.eddiev.com/. roaring fork also has great happy hours if you are there then, and if the baby gets fussy you can always take her right upstairs! there is a great children's museum on 2nd street, but she's probably still too young.

Just an fyi, I found that Stephen F. Austin hotel through hotwire for $110/nt. The Stephen F. Austin is listed as a 4.5 star hotel in Downtown Austin. Hotwire won't actually tell you the name of the hotel before you book, but you can use the clues provied by the websites (amenities, location, etc) in addition to the help of other websites (betterbidding.com and biddingfortravel.com) to figure out the hotel before you bid.
