Hi there,

We want to go to India, but having never been there before have no idea where to begin! Calangute has been mentioned to us. What we want is a hotel near shops and restaurants and somewhere where our 13 and 15 year old wont be to bored! Any ideas most gratefully recieved.

Thanks, Mags

Disagree...a teenager would be bored stupid in Kerala!

You need a hotel in the middle of Baga/Calangute.

Or pehaps what about a big hotel like the Marinha Dourada that may have other teenagers staying? Also although its not near very much, there is a free bus during the day to Baga. Even if you get a taxi, its only 100rps to Baga.

If it's North Goa you want, Calangute and Baga are bustling and Candolim is just up the road but just a little quieter and maybe better for a first visit. Calangute and Baga have plenty of shops and restaurants - we've driven through Candolim but never actually eaten there but have been in a couple of shops there. Personally, I wouldn't stay in Baga as I would find it too noisy at night for sleeping and would probably only stay on the outskirts of Calangute for the same reason. We stay in Arpora which is very quiet at night but only a short taxi ride away from Calangute and Baga where every night we would visit one or the other. Can't see a 13 and 15 year old being bored here.

Hi

after 8 years of going to Goa we love Candolim not as manic as Baga and we always run out of time before trying out all the restaurants.Plenty of shops and the markets at Anjuna to go on a day trip. Taxis are cheap and you can hire one for the day to do Old Goa and the spice plantation. Remember over Xmas and New year prices are high early Dec the weather is lovely and into Jan.

Hi,

Thanks for your replies. Think we have settled on Candolim but we want to find a good four star + all inclusive hotel. All the holiday sites i've been on dont seem to do one. The four star hotels all seem to be in the south of Goa. If anyone has any more suggestions i'd be grateful.

Mags

Mags - The Victor Exotica is an all inclusive hotel in Candolim though it's not four star. It's the sister hotel of the Dona Sylvia in Cavelossim, South Goa. Thomson have some lovely photos of the hotel on their website. My daughter stayed there last year and loved it. You sure you definitely want AI? Food and drink in Goa is incredibly cheap and it's lovely going out to different restaurants each night.

Hi

if you want four star there are very few in the area. There is a 2 yr old one which is called the Lemon tree which got good reviews , The Taj which is very expensive. I personally liked The Phoenix Park or you could try The Highland Beach. The restaurants offer such good value that its a pity to go AI.

The lemon tree looks lovely and it's on the right side of the road for the beach.

Think carefully about going A.I. as there are so many fabulous places to eat, the beach shacks are especially good.

Hi again,

I have checked out some of these hotels and they do look good, thanks. Tha only reason we really want to do all inc is because our 13 year old daughter is a very fussy eater and the hotels all seem to have a few restaurants to choose from. Would we get european food in the shacks? Me and hubby would do curry 3 times a day!!
