brief stopover - what to do/see

I am coming to LA, arriving at 8pm on a Friday and leaving the next day on a 6pm flight, staying in the Hyatt near the airport

I want to do a sightseeing trip when I am there on the Saturday but dont really want to do the stars homes trips but I do want to do all the other typical touristy things, I also want to dip my toes in the sea as I dont know if I will ever get to come back to that side of the USA

I would prefer it if I could get the tour from my hotel too (if possible) - I dont mind if its a long/all day tour, as long as I am back in good time for my flight

does anyone have any recommendations of such a tour and if its not possible from my hotel, where would I need to go to to get to the tour start and how would I get there etc

finally, are there any restaurants that are like Bahama breeze that you recommend and that is easy to get to?

thanks

In terms of tours, here is one that a recent visitor enjoyed (as a local, I don't have first-hand knowledge of tours):

I don't know what Bahama Breeze is, so can't help with that. Mexican is a good choice here in LA, so is Korean.

You'll need to be at LAX by 3PM for your flight, so that doesn't give you much time to explore. Stick to one side of the city without a car, and since you want to see the ocean, visit Santa Monica and Venice. Unless you rent a car, you won't have time to get to Hollywood, Beverly Hills and Santa Monica. I recommend renting a car for a self guided tour.

Check out the Grayline bus tour website. They have a 4 hour tour, which is unfortunately the Hollywood highlights. It gets back to their facility by 1 PM. They have other tours, but they take longer and I don't think that you have the time. I am pretty sure, but not positive, that the bus tour picks you up and drops you off at your hotel. The Grayline tours have the advantage that you are not driving and the drivers and guides have things to point out to you and in general are entertaining. A downside is that they stop at multiple hotels so they are not that efficient from a total time standpoint.

I am sort of in agreement with ElleBein. You could see more if you rented a car, but then you would need to add in an extra hour to get the car back. In the limited amount of time that you have, you aren't going to get to that many places. Maybe drive past the docks in Marina Del Rey, go to Santa Monica, and then a quick stop in Hollywood. Or Santa Monica and the Getty.

Stick to Santa Monica. Pedestrian-friendly in a beautiful setting with world-class restaurants. If you like it, you'll start planning a proper return trip.
