My husband and I are heading down to Islamorada from Orlando next thursday. We are looking for a relaxing weekend. Is that going to be possiable with it being Memorial Day weekend? We are staying at Checca Lodge. Would it be worth the drive to go to Marthon to the beach there?

Is there any MUST that we have to see. We are going snorkling through the resort. Other then that our plans are to pretty much to stay at the resort and lounge other then leaving for resturants in Islamorada.

Thanks.

The drive Thursday should not be any worse than any other day driving from Orlando to Islamorada.

The bad days to travel will be Friday, Saturday, and Monday.

We've been going to Marathon over Memorial Day weekend for the last 8 - 9 years. The first trip down was on a Friday. It took 5 hours from Miami to get to Marathon. Then it took 6 1/2 to drive back on Monday - Memorial Day.

We now travel on Thursday and Tuesday.

It will be a SLOOOW go at that time. If you have a plane to catch, I suggest you leave early in the morning. If you have never been there, Cheeca Lodge is gorgeous. There are small beaches just south around Anne's beach if you want something quieter. One place you may want to watch the sunset is a restaraunt called Morada Bay. (Your place faces east).... it is not far from your resort and is on the other side of the road.

Take Card Sound Rd. instead of U.S.1 into the keys. It costs a dollar, and traffic if far less congested beacuse it is a lesser known route, even though it spits you out right in Key Largo.

What if we head up to FLL at about 8 or 9p.m.

will the traffic be gone?
