Sorry for the family coming after us last week! |
|
We just got back from our second year at the Stafford House. We spent two weeks with the first weeks water and weather being the better of the two. Actually saw a green flash one day. The second week had rough surf and hazy, obscurred sunsets. It was a bittersweet departing on the last day with flat water and blue blue skies. I found myself envious of the folks coming in. That is, until Tuesday the 19th of August rolled in with a very wet TS Fay. Bummer. Just for the record, this little piece of Florida has to rank among my favorite. It is always a very mellow time for the entire family. We are beginning to make friends with some of the locals on both islands which makes our time there feel very comfortable. I am a little puzzled by a comment on another thread about no dogs or alcohol. We always vacation with our golden retriever and several cases of beer. No one has ever hassled us. |

Glad you had a good time! It's Lee County that must enforce the no dog, no alcohol beach rule as it's a county law.

Can you tell me what/where Stafford House is? Always looking for pet friendly options! Thanks!
|
The Stafford is at the very end of Wightman Lane. We have stayed there a couple of times and just loved it. When we were there it still had the rooftop deck which was fantastic. As for the dog/beer laws.....I belive they are only enforced when there is a complaint. As long as your are controling your dog and not chucking beer bottles into the surf or at other visitors you are pretty safe.

Can you tell me more about what you like/dislike about Stafford House? It is on our "short list" for our next trip. The description looked great. For example: Do you get much noise drifting over from the Mucky Duck? I can tell it is not furnished as luxuriously as some homes, but that's fine by us as long as it is comfortable and clean. How were the beds?

I will let littlesureshot chime in here on the beds etc. since it's been 4 years since we stayed there and it looks like they have upgraded most of the furnishings. As far as noise from the Duck....there are trees and at least one house between the Stafford and it so you shouldn't be bothered. We really liked the fact that the house is very well kept but not so fancy that you are afraid to act like you are on vacation. What we enjoyed most was being 40 feet off the beach. Life is so much easier when you can just run back to the house for another beverage of choice (or to take care of the effects of all of those beverages if you catch my drift). We also enjoyed the hot tub that sits ground level under the house.

We loved the casual atmosphere of the Stafford. The house is clean and well kept though not so much that you are afraid to move. I am a bit of a neat freak so beds were made and floors swept every morning. Sand does get in, even with our best rinsing efforts. As for the beds, funny you should ask. We had an issue with a broken support in the master bed but the rental folks were swift in getting someone out to fix it. Even with that glitch, I slept like a baby every night. I enjoyed the hot tub as well as the outdoor shower. We ate in almost every night so the big table in the kitchen was a much appreciated feature. Nothing fancy here but great for our family's needs. As far as the dog goes - the website says no pets. We have a well trained and gentle golden retriever so we given permission. Can't say that would happen for everyone.
