I have just got back from Orlando.
We spent a total of approximately 9 hours in Walmart during the 2 weeks. I have calculated this was more than any period we spent in any individual park.
There were several reasons for this. On the first 2 occasions, I lost Mrs Chinners. We got split up. I bumped into one husband from London who had been looking for his wife for over 2 days and still hadn't found her. It is easy to become split up. It turned out he was in the wrong Walmart.
After the second time, I bought some of those Net10 phones. Best purchase I have ever made. Whenever we got split up, I could locate her. Once, she did not answer but I found her hiding in the craft section behind some foam pumpkins. Once, I got disturbed in the sporting goods section looking at paint ball guns. I did not buy one but bought some golf balls.
My overall experience was that Walmart is probably better than the parks. There are no thrill rides although the shopping trolleys can be exciting at times. But the souvenirs are definately cheaper than Disney or Universal. My balls were certainly shinier and better priced than those at the golf discount shops.
The McDonalds in the 192 Walmart has better prices than equivalent counter meals in the parks. You can even shop while you are eating your 1/3 Angus Burger (which was better than my meal at the California Grill).
Admission was free. The toilet facilities were clean. Alcohol seemed to be priced competitively and there seemed to be more choice of items than even the big Disney shop in DTD. Parking was plentiful and also free.
Would I go back? Probably not for such a long time next visit, but it is really down to Mrs C. I suspect this will be the determining factor. However, I would certainly recommend it for an inexpensive day out.
