fastpit,

If your area of interest is restricted to I-drive, Universal, Sea World and the convention center, you do not need a car. if you want to go anywhere else, you do.

Not true.

As well as the places mentioned, the LYNX network also covers the Florida Mall, Disney, Kissimmee, Winter Park, and so on. There are few places within the Greater Orlando area that you can't get to by bus. But bus services do NOT extend, for example, to either coast.

The committed drivers among us (and they are a majority, I reckon) will understandably recommend you to have a car as it does, of course, offer convenience and speed. But that does come at a cost, of course. If you include insurance, fuel, parking costs and so on, you can roughly reckon on about GBP200 per week.

Orlando's public transport is reasonable and very, very inexpensive. A weekly pass allows unlimited use of the entire LYNX system and costs just $16. Journeys by bus do, of course, take longer than by car and require a different type of planning. But services are frequent enough (mostly, every 30 minutes or better - and, on I-Drive itself, 6x per hour most of the time; less later on) and they run until the small hours most days. The last bus back to I-Drive from Disney is at midnight (earlier at weekends). And as I said above, you can use LYNX to go almost anywhere you are likely to want to - but NOT as far as the seaside in any direction.

Really, only you can decide if it works for you. It works for me and I'm entirely happy to spend my £200 per week on eating nicer steaks or whatever I fancy. There are other TA members who would express the same view. And of course many for whom the very idea seems idiotic. If the concept of sharing your vehicle with a number of strangers; of having to wait for a schedule and of taking maybe twice as long to get from A to B is not something you care to endure - rent the car. If you can cope with all that - then set out an hour earlier each morning happy in the knowledge you've got another £35 to spend today.

It's a lot more expensive than using the Lynx but we vastly prefer to have our own car. We just like the convenience and ease of it. Just remember that, in addition to your rental costs, the major theme parks all charge in the neighborhood of $14/day for parking.

might not be true but I'd get a car. Don't do waiting for the bus, especially on holiday. IMO you miss too much without and waist so much time waiting around.
