What would have been the one piece of advice or recommendation that you wish you had known before your 1st visit to Orlando?

I am going in 2 weeks for the 1st time, looking forward to reading your answers.

Thanks

Would not have gone to Orlando for the first time to go to WDW at christmas. We did this with our son when he was 5 in Dec.2001 right after 9/11 because of the great rates being offered by the Disney hotels and others. Would never stay in a Disney budget motel again. IE: All Star Sports. And I would never again go to one of there so called urgent care centers in the area for a medical problem. You are much better off going directly to the Hospital ER. And last but certainlly not least, I WOULD NEVER AGAIN DRIVE 1250 MILES FROM NY TO FLORIDA AND BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If I can"t fly, I ain"t going!

I wish that I had not trusted a travel agent to sell me the totally wrong package because I believed him - that all hotels in USA were of a high standard.

Naive? yes.

I did my best having researched all I could but after you have paid your money then you have to get on with it.

That is why we should not be hard on people who make mistakes or ask the simplest of questions.

We all make mistakes and we all need help when travelling to places new !!!

The first time I went, I made a lot of rookie mistakes:

I took the children during spring break -- wish I'd have known to do exactly what you're doing -- go to Disney during the slower times.

The first time I went, the kids were horribly bored in some of the lines. Wish I'd have known to bring a deck of cards or something for the kids to play with while we waited. (We did this on later trips).

We first took the children when they were very young. Wish I'd have known to wait a couple of years till they were a little older and could really enjoy it.

We stayed in hotels during the first trip. Wish I'd have known that renting a pool home was so reasonable in comparison.

The first time we went, one of the children became ill on one of the first rides and I wish I'd have known about children's (and adults) chewable dramimine.

Like others, I wish I'd have known that you can enjoy Disney many times over -- I thought I'd see it once and be done with it. It has been fun each and every time.

The first vistit HMMMMM

wish I would have made sure each kid brought more then one pair of shoes !!! Wet shoes blistered feet makes you take time to go to the mall And I deffinately would look thru the kids suitcases before going !!! !st time my middle one that was 14 at the time had a couple of surprises in his LOL

Wish I would have planned a DOWN day in the middle of the week just to chill or go back to a place again or whatever don't book every minute of every day

As another poster said deck of cards in belly bag also tylenol !!!!

Make reservations at any restaurant wayyyy early

Found out about trip advisor before 1st trip

Don't pack as many clothes and stuff !

Buy snacks at Walmart Stay in a suite or condo or pool house insted of just a room Actually ends up being much cheaper and much more comfortable for the whole family

Get the smallest camera possible to carry The first time we took our then HUGE movie camera !! what a pain !

Wish I would have known about the stupid little lizards that are every where in Florida !!! LOL the shower, bags that you bought at the mall and put on the floor and start moving in the night LOL

One thing I wish I had known on my first visit,

That the rain showrers only last a few minutes maybe an hour at most and not to head of back to the hotel thinking the afternoon was a washout.

I look forward to the afternoon showers in Septmeber as it cools the place down and thoe not in the know run for cover and dash away, empties the parks alot.

Not all airlines are the same.

We first went in 1990 with TCD.
