Last week, my husband and I were in Greenville, Maine and wanted to see some moose. We hired a guide to take us out looking in remote areas for moose. We hired Ed Mathieu, a registered Maine Guide of Moose Country Safaris and Eco Tours (www.moosecountrysafaris.com) for an evening trip. He picked us up in his jeep promptly at 4 pm and took us to a remote pond on the western side of Moosehead Lake. After a short walk through the woods, we came to the pond and there were two moose cows on a far bank. After watching them for about 30 minutes, he drove us to the eastern side of the lake to another remote pond where we saw a young bull moose. Later, as we were leaving, we spotted another moose cow trotting down the road in front of the jeep. Mr. Mathieu entertained us with stories of the area and was obviously very knowledgeable about moose and where to find them. He gave us as much time as we wanted to take pictures and just watch the moose. (As an aside, he offers canoe trips too but we opted for the jeep tour instead.) His rates were reasonable for a 4 hr tour and we greatly enjoyed our moose hunting trip with him. We highly recommend him.
