Teenagers in Vegas - Which hotel?

We are going to Vegas in October for the first time. The children are 11 and 15. Which hotel would you recommend and why? They love Universal/Disney theme parks and we would normally go to Florida - so I'm not sure how Vegas will compare? Will there be enough to do for 1 week? Thinking of going to Phoenix/Grand Canyon to reduce time in Vegas.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I would pick Excalibur as I seem kids there plus you'll be close to Luxor, MGM, NYNY so it won't be far to walk or take a cab.

Stay at TI, Excalibur would not appeal to them, maybe if they were younger, and rooms are awful. Stay at TI, it's connected to the tram by monorail so two casinos, and you have the Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat there, they will love Gameworks(on the Strip) and there are lots of rides(go to the Stratosphere, three rides on top of it and it's the tallest outdoor observation deck in the US. Also, TI has great food, the best coffee shop in Vegas(it's a Starbucks, but wonderful), a Ben and Jerry's and a Krispy Kreme. You and your kids will love it, they will not be bored!!!

Thanks for the advice on TI. Mixed reviews on the forum (small pool, not much space in rooms, food average, lots of 20 somethings hanging out - is this really suitable for a family?) Any other hotel suggestions please?

TI has reformatted to discourage families with children by going to adult themes (no more oirate show, replaced with T&A) and charging extra. This was in effort to attract younger adults and to compete with Rio, Palms, and HRH. So IMO it is not a good choice to stay with children.

I would look into Orleans. It is off strip, which means your children cannot wonder off on the strip and ditch you. It has several inexpensive resaurants with menus that appeal to teens. There is a bowling alley, arcade, and several movie theaters. The rooms are large, clean, nicely appointed, and very inexpensive. Better than most you will find on the strip. They have a decent pool where the kids can swim.

My son is 12 and we usually go to Florida but we are going to Las Vegas and California this year and staying at Monte Carlo, purely for the pool (wave pool, lazy river) and it is mid-strip. Stayed there 2 years ago and liked it.

Agree with other posters, the Orleans...they have bowling and a multi screen cinema, and arcade. Monte Carlo also for it's smaller size, nice pool area, and location on the strip.

Orleans is the only way to go with kids that age. Very nice hotel rooms, good family oriented restaurants, pool, bowling, movie theatres, and cheap and fun gambling for mom and dad. A week in Las Vegas with kids on first trip is WAY too long. A trip to Flagstaff and Grand Canyon would be good. Check out some of old Route 66 on the way. 3 nights in Vegas, 2 or 3 on the road and 1 or 2 back in Vegas would be what I would recommend.

Vegaswrite said: "TI for kids" Not a good idea, sounds like complete inexperience or poor judgement. Stick with Orleans, MC, Excalibur, or CC.

If the kids liked Disney, they would like CC, it has a indoor theme park, and 24-hour circus acts. Can't say you would like it.

I would go with mandalay bay, big rooms, great pool and very open with high ceiling and at the end of strip. Very nice resort, excalbur is a little dark and way too crowded.
