Our first family visit to Lake Champlain. Rented a beautiful camp on Cumberland Head. Tremendous property with incredible view and large water access. Very private. This may have been my husband's all-time-favorite vacation. FISHING non-stop off the dock and row boat.
Day trip to Lake Placid and Wilmington. Did the Cloudsplitter Gondola ($76 for 4). Incredible. Wore the wrong shoes or we would have hiked a bit at the summit of Little Whiteface. Beautiful ride there. We stopped at the covered bridge in Jay and along the river to do some wading.
Day trip to Vermont on the Grand Isle ferry. Very easy to do. We drove south to a family ancestor village, South Royalton, home of Vermont Law School. Darling small town. Drove back up to Burlington and drove around (absolutely poured rain as soon as we arrived). Cute town. Vermont is lovely. Loved that there is little to no billboards along the main highway.
Cumberland Bay State Park is closed due to flooding and the public beach was closed for a few days. Looked very nice. Point au Roche beach, just north, was very nice, too.
The area around the college and downtown has seen better days.
Restaurants visited (reviews posted for all):
Naked Turtle - twice - second time because it was our last night and the first two we went to didn't work out.
Homestead (for breakfast)
Cafe Mooney Bay (for drinks)
McSweeney's (we tried but arrived after 7:30pm and they were closing)
