We are traveling to Maggie Valley on Feb 23 and 24th. We are looking for a nice steak house and something entertaining for Saturday night. We will be staying at the Castlewood, do you have any suggestions. Thanks

There are a couple of places we eat at there. The Garloc Knot is a great little Italian Pizza place and we eat at Smackers from time to time. There is a new sports bar we have not tried yet.

Downtown Waynesville has some nice places, but if you want a good dinner in the Smokies try the Balsam Mountain Inn. They have good steak and more. They accept reservations for dinner and I would encourage you to make them. We get the steak tenderloins blackened on a bed of mixed greens with blue cheese crumbles and a vinegrette dressing. Yummmy.

Balsam Mountain Inn is in Balsam off US 74 headed towards Sylva.

I've eaten at Smackers many times. We like it very much. The Garlic Knot sounds interesting, I've always like Italian food best.

For steaks in Maggie Valley, there's always J. Arthur's. Nice place, great food, a little expensive I've always thought.

The Balsam Mountain Inn is another place on my list of to-do's. I read an article on it in Smoky Mountain Living Magazine. It sounds super!

Have a great trip, we are going up march 26!

Garlic Knots is new and we ate at the one in Waynesville a few weeks ago. The garlic knots themselves are awesome - whole garlic cloves roasted with bread. Yummy. The pizza was superb and not greasy at all.

Balsam Mountain Inn is worth eating. We try to go there every couple of months and have gotten to know the owners there. They are great people.

A little further west in Bryson City there is a new place called Jimmy Macs on US 19 in downtown. They have been opened about a year. Their burgers are out of this world good. They use Sushi grade ground beef and if you can dream it, they can cook it.

Garlic Knots is on the right of US 19 (if headed toward Cherokee) about a 1 mile before you get to the turn off for Cataloochee ski area.

Well, Bob, you were right. We ate at Garlic Knots in Maggie Valley Saturday night and it was great. We had Chicken Cacciatore, Chicken Parmigiana and Lasagna. It was all pretty good. The garlic knots were great. We'll be back.

Thanks for the recommendation.

BradMac, that place is great. I also highly reccomend Nick and Nates in both Waynesville and Sylva. Between the two it is a toss up in terms of quality of pizza, you cant go wrong at either. Glad you had a good time there.

I've been to Nick & Nates in Waynesville. It's very good pizza, but I'm not sure I'm willing to wait 45 minutes again for seating in a pizza place. LOL

I will admit, it was a Saturday night during the Thanksgiving holidays. I'm sure that had something to do with it.
