I feel like I'm asking so many questions..I'm excited!!....Will we need water shoes for swimming in the ocean..or walking the beach? Will any of the restaurants at CRT be closed in early Sept. Hubby said maybe we will be two of very few there??? so maybe limited dinning options..still excited!! Thank You!

2Happy... No need for water shoes the beach is one of the best in the area.

Never know if rest. will be closed. It just depends how full they are.

I like to wear sandals while walking the beach as the sand can be very hot at times. No water shoes needed. Restaurant closings MAY happen on a rotating basis depending on occupancy levels. I can't remember them closing more than one each night.

Agree with Van.... Akumal is 10 minutes South and PA is 8 minutes North. Many local places to eat in both places. Nattys in the Akumal Pubelo has great flat chicken.

Thanks everyone for again great advice...We are planning an early am trip to Akumal for snorkeling & lunch there is on our agenda ..We have eaten at Lol Ha & Taco Mayan? can't remember the exact name, would like to try La Buena Vida. Is Nattys? in that same area?? This is our (Hubby & I ) 1st trip alone in along time..usually travel with friends. A night out for dinner would be nice.

Try the Botanero Platter at La Buena Vida, really good. Naty's is over in the pueblo, across the highway, along with several other flat chicken places. They tend to run out early afternoon.

No need for water shoes for the beach or the ocean - both are amazing. You almost need shoes to walk about the pool area. For some reason they decided to do these octogon-like pavers throughout the area which can be hard on your feet.

Not sure about restaurants as we do not travel in Sept - but in our November travels there is usually one restaurant dark per night.

Another good place to eat in Akumal is called Emelda's they do not have a website but good reasonable priced food.

Imelda's Ecocina - Restaurant in Akumal

Breakfast and lunch, with a Belizean flair. Two daily lunch specials. Dinners served Monday & Friday (sign-up). Don't be surprised if there's dancing at dinner! Simply great food.

Location: next to the CEA Center.

Does Not Accept Credit Cards. Open 7:30 am - 3:00 pm, dinner: 6.30 pm, Closed Sunday.

Another vote for Imelda's. Located behind the CEA building next to the dive shop. Compared to Lol Ha prices , this little restaurant is a huge bargain. And, we think the food is far better than Lol Ha. If you need/want beer, go over to the Chomak and grab a 6 pack. Imelda's has sodas and sometimes (but rarely?) beer. We go there each trip for lunch after snorkeling and always have a leisurely lunch and turtle sighting story time. :-) Another breakfast/lunch place to try in Akumal is the Loncheria which is an outdoor diner style restaurant attached to the Chomak grocery store. It doesn't look impressive, but the food gets rave reviews by many Akumal addicts.
