 Cleveland During Easter Weekend

Hi,

I will be traveling with my husband, 11 and 15 year old children, and 90 year-old wheelchair bound aunt from 4/14-4/16. I think I have the attractions nailed down (too many for the time!), but would like to go somewhere for an Easter breakfast buffet. We are staying at the Embassy Suites downtown, and any "inside info" that would make our trip special would be appreciated. I'm also thinking about the Cabaret at the Playhouse Square- the "girls" like theatre (Amanda is 11- okay for her?) Thanks in advance,

Jeri

Several downtown hotels offer brunches on the weekend - The Ritz, The Marriott at Key Tower, and the Intercontinental Hotel at the Cleveland Clinic (slightly east of downtown about 10 minutes). All are excellent but pricey and you will need reservations. The Cleveland Chop House also offers a brunch - bit more in line for prices and kid friendly. The are located on St. Clair and West Sixth in the Warehouse district. So many things not to miss but you can check out www.pluggedincleveland.com or www.coolcleveland.com for other suggestions. Have a great time!

Check out fat fish blue on the corner of ontario and prospect. They serve southern/cajun food and Easter brunch is 24 for adults and 12 for kids. The website is fatfishblue.com

A lot of places are doing special breakfast buffets (special meaning more expensive than usual, LOL), all the hotels and probably a lot of the restaurants but I'm not sure which would be better than others.

I don't know what the Cabaret is at Playhouse Square, is that a bar or restaurant or something? I've never heard of it. Ok, I looked it up - playhouse square's site must be down but I found a little info. It appears this is at Kennedy's, which I think is a "down under" bar/club under Playhouse Square. I would guess if this is a bar and they're doing a cabaret act that it will at least be somewhat risque and racy, not sure about language. I don't know that it would be appropriate for an 11 year old. Best thing to do would be to call and ask, I found this number: 216-241-6000

If the girls are under 18, skip the caberet - there was a review in the paper this week, and mentioned that some of the subject matter of the patter and the songs is inappropriate for families (or the easily offended.)

Try the search engine at the Visitor's Bureau - travelcleveland.com/Calendar_of_Events/event… - you can put in the dates you want and the area and/or type of event (one of the categories is "theatre"), and it will give you a list of everything that's going on, and usually a link to details.

Century at the Ritz, San Souci, and Johnny's Downtown are probably the three nicest restaurants. Coming in a close second would be Metropolitain, Blue Point (good seafood), and Hyde Park (good steak). All of these places are a little pricey.

I have not yet tried the House of Blues Sunday Gospel Brunch, but it sounds fantastic. It includes performances and an all you can eat buffet. You need to order tickets ahead of time though, so I recommend you check for availability immediately; especially for Easter.

I'm not familar with the cabaret at Playhouse House Square, but across the street from House of Blues and just down the street from Playhouse Square is Pickwick and Frolic's. It is a cabaret, comedey venue, and restaurant complex. The cabaret here would be very appropriate for a family. I saw them once, and they do nice renditions of classic songs. Maybe dinner and cabaret show afterwards here would be something nice to do.

I know several people who have been to the HOB brunch and they say the seating is extremely crowded and uncomfortable - long, cafeteria style tables with almost no room in between to scoot seats in and out, and that the food is pretty mediocre at best. I have also heard that even those who love gospel find themselves leaving early as it is just WAY too loud. Too bad, as this could be a really cool, unique thing to do.
