Will be visting Beaufort for the first time in June. Can anyone recommend a nice casual restaurant for lunch? By the water would be nice but not a must. Thanks.

There are four or five places to eat that have small areas outside facing the water. The majority of them are very small and crowded. Just look at a menu and decide. There is also a seafood restaurant in Port Royal that has a pretty big enclosed area on the water, but I can never remember the name.

Casual raw bar NOT on the water, across the bridge towards Dataw and Fripp is Steamers. Good service, really good food and beer is ice cold.

if you want a real local "joint" try the Shrimp Shck on the road out to Hunting Island. It is a shack around a tree. Fresh fresh fresh. Try the shrimp burger.

The place in Port Royal is Dockside, but they're not open at lunch. I've had good lunches at Panini's downtown.
