I hope this reply is not too late. A car is really needed. But the pier has a bar two as a matter of fact and there is a bar on the garage level of water's edge.You will need a car for everything else.Krogers is the closet and probably the best for the $$ enjoy

We just got back from Water's Edge (I think that is close to Surfmaster), and our condo was wonderful!!! I think what is most attractive about these condos are the ocean is right at your balcony door, we saw dolphins most mornings, and I love the fact that it seems quiet compared to all the hustle and bustle of being right in Myrtle Beach.

Just around the Surfside and Garden city beaches try these bars: Conch Cafe, it serves up great drink and you can sit on the covered patio at watch the waves come in. Also close by is Lattitude 22, but a little farther walk. I love my afternoon walk and pina coloda!!! Also try Bubba's Fish Shack at the corner of Surfside Drive and Ocean Blvd - try the deep fried dill pickles - yummy!

We always walked down to the Garden City Pier, it is free and seemed a little closer (this pier also has 2 bars) I loved going out there and watching the fishermen, sometimes when they clean the fish you can see sharks! So very cool!!!

The grocery stores are close, but you could not walk to them, you will need a car or taxi, the Kroger is nice and close by. But if you are in a jam and need bread and milk quickly, there is a small variety store in the little plaza on Altantic Ave (near the Garden City Pier).

You said you stayed at the Waters Edge....did the condo's have washer/dryer in the unit? Was you pleased with the condo? Could you recommend the unit number of your condo?

We were in condo #711, but we rented it through a friend's parents that own it. But from what I have seen, Dunes realty, or even renting from Water's Edge directly, the condos all seem nice and clean and in good repair, and the rates all comparable. On the Dunes Realty site you can actually have a virtual tour of the unit you are going to rent. I mean they are not up to date decorating, but all I care about is how clean the place is! If you go to rent directly from Water's Edge the advantage to that is, if you have any complaints, they have a front desk/office that could address any concerns or problems immediately, I am sure that is also true of a rental agency as well.

I am pretty sure that all condos have a washer and dryer in the unit, that is nice to keep up with laundry and to have fresh towels etc...

We were really happy with Water's Edge, the pool is really nice, direct access to the beach, and has lots of palms trees around the pool and outdoor hot tub, so it has a real tropical feel.

We stayed at Surfmaster by the Sea last June and are returning again this June. It is very nice. I would highly recommend it. But you will need a car for grocery store. Not that far driving but wouldn't want to walk it. You can go to surfmaster by the sea.com and take virtual tours. We stayed in 812 las year it is one the virtual tour and the pictures are identical to the room.
