We saw many sad kids at the boardwalk yesterday morning.
Spent Monday night at the Kemah Boardwalk Inn, planning to have fun yesterday before our daughter’s medical appointment Tuesday afternoon. When we showed up yesterday morning to buy tickets, nine rides where closed. That is more than half the rides (perhaps more than two-thirds Since Kemah is pretty small) and, worse, it was all the rides our six year-old daughter could go on.
To make matters worse, we had asked at the hotel desk when the rides would be open. The nice woman told us all the rides would open at 10:30.
Editorial here: Since Landry’s owns the hotel as well as the amusement park, it would make sense for the boardwalk operation to keep the hotel folks apprised of ride closings. If Landry’s had notified the hotel woman that the rides would be closed, she could have told us and we would have gone to the Space Center instead. Plus, as we walked around the boardwalk Monday night, there were no signs that the rides would be closed yesterday. Sure, maintenance has to be done, and sometimes at the last minute, but for nine rides??? (and if nine rides need immediate maintenance, something must be wrong.)
The Kemah Boardwalk website states that the rides are open, along with their hours of operation. The website also advertises an “All Day Ride Pass.” Nowhere does the website even mention the slightest possibility that any of the rides would be closed, much less more than half the rides (and I checked the website before I left). Of the twelve rides featured on the “amusements” part of the website, eight of those were closed. We asked one of the workers for more information but he didn’t know.
The irony is we ended up going to Hermann Park and rode the train. We always do that and are never let down.
I am finishing my letter to Landry’s and will share any response.
