Weather will be better that Scot!! Where to stay and what to do all depends on what you like to do (other than night life). How long do you plan to stay and just in Houston or do you plan to go elsewhere in Texas?

Lots of things to do in Houston - it is vast and spread out. You will need a car as public transport is pretty bad.

The big tourist item is NASA - but the museums, parks, theater (theatre), bars, restaurants (night life) - all are good. If into sports - maybe a sporting event - maybe a pre-season baseball game (not quite - but like cricket).

As far as where to stay - without knowing all the details to me the default is the Galleria area. Once you give more details - the Houston group will give you all the answers.

P.S. - Will even lie for a bottle of Oban - maybe even kill for MCcallan (sp)? 25!! LOL

I would recommend Hotel Zaza or Hotel Derek to be failrly close to alot of action. Head down to Washington Avenue for nightlife. A TON of bars, clubs and restaurants on that street. El Tiempo for Mexican, Catalan for Tapas, Maxs Wine Dive for an interesting modern spin on some Southern Classics. Taps House of beers for a great beer selection and place to watch sports. Pearl Bar and the Drinkery are also fun bars. There are also several upscale bars. I don't hit that scene because I don't like places with lines and dress codes. I highly recommend a place called the West Alabama Icehouse if you want to experience what a true Texas icehouse is. It is an open air bar. Friday night there is live music and free hotdogs. Just a ton of picnic tables. Great people watching and cheap beer. Weather will be really nice and mild that time of year. Hope you have a great trip.

If you decide to go to NASA, you should also visit the Kemah Boardwalk nearby - lots of places to eat on the water, very nice if the weather is good, and March is usually when the weather starts to warm back up. If you have time, Moody Gardens in Galveston is fun.

This year, the rodeo is from March 2-21. It is a very "Houston" thing to attend, and one of the city's biggest annual attractions. Check out details at http://www.hlsr.com There are rodeo events, celebrity musical performances, exhibits, shops, food, wine tasting--something for everyone.

Astros baseball games in Houston don't start until April.

Hotels Zaza and Derek are both very nice, but I consider them to be "fancy." There are lots of other options, though. Most important is to figure out the part of town where most of the things you're interested in are.

I think the Rockets should still be playing in March - could be fun to check out a game.

well we fly in on the 5th of march.we did speak about flying to california but we dunno yet, think wel prob just stay in texas itself....another thing we're not sure about is how much money we're roughly going to need? lol

Book your hotel -- all nights -- since you will be in Houston during the rodeo. All hotels near the rodeo at Reliant Park will be booked months in advance, and there will be spillover around town. (We found this out the hard way when we had to be in town for a medical appt.)

And by all means go to the rodeo. It is fab. Check out the big-name concerts. We even got to pet a highland cow from your neck of the woods.

By the way, welcome to our neck of the woods. We visited the Highlands in 2005 and hope you love Texas as much as we loved Scotland.

And yes to Kemah and NASA.

Not sure what to say - Kelly C - thumbs down - but for the bottle of Mac 25 - she is the best!

I agree with the others - go to the rodeo (and this is not rodeo drive) - very Texan. My wife is a Brit (okay so not a Scot) and she loves the rodeo.

You will find things a lot less expensive here - my general rule of thumb - what is one GBP is one USD - so with the exchange rate at 1.60X - you should be okay. In addition Texas is a lot cheaper compared to the East or West coast.

On the average a hotel room is in the $100 range per night per room (not per person as it is in the UK) - a decent dinner around $20 to $25 per person (before drinks).

Of course I can be bribed with the Mc's - hope you enjoy Houston
