Hi, I am on a cruise in December and I have a day in the Bay of islands. I will have 2 children with me (age 6 and 11). Any suggestions of activities?
Many thanks
Bronwyn
The children will absolutely love The MackAttack; the fastest boat out to the Hole in the Rock and a great way to quickly see the Bay of Islands.
If this is too thrilling for you then perhaps a trip to The Waitangi Treaty Grounds might appeal.
Be aware that your cruise ship will anchor in the bay offshore between Pahia & Russell and the passengers will be tendered to shore, there is no wharf. Depending on passenger numbers and the cruise boat you are on, people who have booked tours through the ship will be offloaded first. It may be an hour or two before independant passengers get to shore.
And if you haven't already seen enough dolphins you might like to take a dolphin watch/swim tour around the islands.
Did you end up taking your children on the macattack. We are taking our 4 and 6 year old to Bay of Islands and wanting to know if the boat ride was any good?
Taking youngsters on the Mac attack is a risky business. The Mac attack and Excitor operations are currently under review by Labour Dept Health and Safety as a result of a passenger receiving severe back injuries form one of the more bumpy trips. I havent heard outcome of these investigations.
Edited: 12 years agoWe have just returned from our NZ trip and I took my 12 year old daughter on MAC attack. We thought is was absolutely brilliant!. There were only about 12 of us on the boat. Not at all scary and the bonus was that we were escorted back to Paihia by a pod of dolphins.
