Hi, looking on Expedia this hotel is $2700 for 5 nights Mon 30th Aug-Sat 4th Sept.

on cityandshow.com this hotel is £590 ($900) for the same dates - worth booking then I presume??

Not sure how it can be so much cheaper on city and show but I have seen great deals on here and people talking about them. bookeda vegas hotel through them.

any advice welcome!

Are you sure the Expedia did not also include airfare---- that price for the Fitzpatrick is way too high. The $900 I could believe.

It's certainly not worth $2700 for 5 nights at any time of year. Is that a typo? There are different sized rooms including some 1 bedroom suites It's not a favorite hotel/location of mine (corporate location, overly fussy decor) but at $900, good value. Just read the fine print. I'm sure they'll expect payment on booking and it's probably not cancelable so you can't take advantage of any sales that come along. I've already told you I think there will be some between now and then but you seem anxious to book something. I think that's fine but I'd keep options open. That's a classic time for hotel bargains.

Hi - checked again and not inc flight, just hotel. seems wierd as it is a standard room, £140 Mon, Tues then has £434(!) listed per night weds, thurs, fri.

if the $900 seems about right then I will leave it, thought we might be getting an absolute bargain.

nywhiz - am trying to take your advice and hold on, it's not I don't believe you but getting a bit over excited about the trip abd booking somewhere up!

best websites to check you say are travelzoo?

also will probably find good rates around end May time?

Listening to Whiz on hotel rooms is somewhat like listening to your broker on the stock market--- sometimes she is wrong but most of the time it is wise to follow her advice but it is your money.

I don't agree with the analogy at all. I'm better than any stockbroker I've ever had. :)

I said book something cancelable and keep looking for deals. If that Fitzpatrick is cancelable and appeals to you, book it. If there's a hotel you particularly like, sign up for emails from them.

http://milburnhotel.com

has a studio suite for $179/night plus tax that's cancelable. It's on the upper west side.

I booked this hotel on Travelzoo at a total cost of $850 inc tax for 5 nights. Hoping to travel on Thursday provided the cloud of volcanic ash has moved North by then!!! No flights going anywhere from the UK today again!! If I do manage to get to New York I can give you a full report on the hotel when I get back. It probably wouldn't have been my first choice of hotel however price was too good to pass up and it does get pretty good reviews on Tripadviser!! As I am hoping to hardly be spending any time in my room as long as it is clean and comfortable and in a resonable location I'll be happy.

The $900 sounds a great rate. Agree that it is ideal to book hotel in advance, and cancelable, so that you have something 'in the bag' then can if youwish, look out for any other bargains that might be better. However, I find that bargain rates often require full cost up front, and not cancelable.

I have stayed at the Fitzpatrick Grand Central, (but some while back..) good location for getting around, nice big rooms, kettle in room if that is useful to you. Request high floor to get a nice light room.

I know from previous research that for broadly that location, you can often get deals at the Helmsly, the Waldorf Astoria and the Bryant Park, you would need to check the TA reviews and hotel websites to see if they would suit.

Last time we visited (2009) we stayed at The Library Hotel. One block away from Grand Central in the other direction to the Fitzpatrick Grand Central. More expensive room rate but smart boutique hotel with 24 hour free refreshment - Italian coffee making machine in lounge with fresh fruit and pastries available 24/7. Top floor roof terrace area to sit outside (nice at time of your visit..), good breakfast buffet and included cheese and wine buffet 5-8pm daily.
