Hi. I'd really appreciate some input into our itinary. We're a family of 4 - including 2 girls 12 & 14.
Day 1 (Tuesday) - arrive at JFK, and travel to Holiday Inn Midtown 57th Ave. If time permits we're hoping to walk through central park, eat in the area and go to FAO Schwartz if we have the energy. (I've already posted about this and had some great suggestions for places to eat).
Day 2 (Wednesday) - walk to Top of the Rock and go up at 8am. Then look at St Patrick's cathederal before going to American Girl Place at 10am. Personal shopper arranged, lunch booked for 12.30.
Then split up so husband can take shopping back to hotel and maybe go for a jog in central park. Mum & girls to shop on 5th avenue - Build a bear, Hollister, Tiffany's. Meet up at Ellen's Stardust Diner for milkshakes.
Later that evening - possibly go to Times Square to see the lights. Maybe get pizza? Girls want to see Toys R US. Or maybe we could do the Twilight Cruise from pier 78?
Day 3 (Thursday) - Brooklyn & Downtown
Just not sure how best to order this.
I was thinking we could get the subway to Brooklyn in the morning (to Clarks St). Walk down to Willow St, head towards Brooklyn Bridge Park, Jacques Torres Chocolate, art galleries, then back across Brooklyn Bridge.
The girls really want a stack of pancakes for breakfast one day and I thought this might be a good day for this. But where to go? I was thinking we could go to Clinton Street Baking Co on the way to Brooklyn. And then the subway to York St in Brooklyn? Unless anyone can suggest good pancakes nearer our hotel which might be easier.
We have tickets at 12.00 for the 9/11 memorial. I'd like to go to St Paul's chapel, and maybe the National Museum of the Native Indian. If we've had a big breakfast, I think we'll just need a snack for lunch. Maybe a suggestion for good icecream here?
Then the Statten Island ferry. And a chance to rest our feet.
I'm then unsure whether to book tickets for the Tenement Museum for later in the afternoon. I'd like to go - but I'm worried that this will be too much on top of what we will have already done. We may just go and look at South Sea Port and then go to Katz Deli for dinner.
Day 4 (Friday)
Take the subway to 14th St and then go to Chelsea Market. Walk along the High Line, then walk towards Empire State Building (from outside). Lunch at Mandoo? New York Public Library, then Grand Central Station. Girls want to go to Little Missmatched sock shop and Juniors Cheesecake.
Maybe Museum of Natural History in the evening (free admission after 4pm).
Either Hanci Turkish Cuisine or Empanada Mama which are both quite near our hotel for dinner in the evening.
Day 5 (Saturday)
Our last day.
Maybe the Met in the morning (opens at 9.30). Would be nice to have a good lunch before we leave - but we need to be back at the hotel by 2pm to get our cab back to JFK.
What's not included - Intrepid. Greenwich Village. Bloomingdale's. Macy's. Maybe some things need to be added to our next trip.
I've not included any Broadway shows because we live near London and we've seen many of the big shows here. But on the look out for discount tickets for something different. I'm on the High 5 mailing list in case there are any offers for kids/teens while we are there. And Broadway Box. And Groupon.
All input gratefully received.
